A quick thought for you lovely people…..
If you type ‘Mount Everest’ into Google Earth (I cannot provide a link unfortunately) select the terrain view instead of map or satellite and zoom out a little, the similarity between the terrain is remarkably similar to the proposed terrain shape and size of the lost island.
This is a link to a fan made map. The map was lovingly made from details taken from maps presented to us through various characters. http://www.vakaruge.com/temp/LOST/lost_islandmaplostysmurf.png If you have the Everest Terrain map for comparison you will see the similarities.
The first link is a view of Mt Everest from the south. The second link is Rousseau’s map of the island from the south. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:102_0245eve.jpg http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Image:Rousseaus-map-translated.jpg I know these images are not identical but it gives you an idea that if Everest were surrounded by water the peaks you would expect to see are similar to Rousseau’s map, taking weathering and ice disappearance into account.
For the record I hope lost island is not Everest or any other mountain peak of a watery future, just thought it was worth a mention.
Everest currently stands at about 8848m above sea level, the islands estimated height is roughly 3000m. The sea level would have to rise by roughly 6000m
The Himalayas is in one of twelve 12 Vile Vortices’s (for those of you that like the vile theory)
Was the listening station in the Himalayas? Is the sitar music at the beginning of the scene a clue to the location?
Tibetan and Buddhist influence in the show.
Adam and eve….rest.
In Walkabout Locke says: “Norman Croucher. Norman Croucher, double amputee, no legs. He climbed to the top of Mt. Everest. Why? It was his destiny.” Norman Croucher is a real man. Despite the loss of both his legs Norman has climbed many mountains. Interesting thing about Lockes speech is that Norman Croucher has never climbed Everest…………….but he plans to in the future. Time clue? Writers error? Or a Locke error, written as a hidden clue to Lockes knowledge or lack of it?
ADD. Also I forgot to include this speech from Des in LTDA1 After his escape attempt. “This is all there is left. This ocean and this place here. We are stuck in a bloody snow globe. There’s no outside world. There’s no escape.”

Heh! For the sheer deft verve by how you’ve gone about drawing in Everest into Lost I’m giving this a +1.
I don’t buy into it, mind (I’m not even sure you’re asking me to buy into anything!), but that doesn’t stop it being good stuff. You had me smiling at the sitar/himalaya/Listening Post tie-in (bravo!), and the eve-rest is cute. But pulling Locke’s Norman Croucher speech out of the hat and into this post was a masterstroke.
Original and thorough and interesting and, above all, focused. Love it.
I think this is a class idea, and the way that, even though many don’t like the vortices theory nor the time theory (which are closely linked), it backs them up and is a very good notion +1
fivestades, clever theory, very clever! Definitely worthy of a +1
interesting theory. was your research funded by al gore? just kidding!
5stades this question is off the topic, but is that lost map even right. Because there are a few inconsistenies regarding it. One example shouldn’t the pala ferry be near the statue foot. frech chicks first camp should be closer to losties beach as well. Do you have any links to other lost maps.
Drive by +1…
Absolutely brilliant and amazing. Good stuff indeed. No idea if its even possible, but really great idea. But just in the interest of getting all the info out, i believe on the bonus disc in the first season dvd collection one of the writers says the Norman Croucher thing was a mistake on their part that was caught to late. But thats no reason the writers couldnt use it later as part of the plot. +1
Hi guys, nice comments,
Pacey, I used this map for shape/terrain purposes. Take a look at this http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29143 this guy is amazing and has spent a huge amount of time digitally building the island.
Hurleyesque……thanks for clearing up the mystery of the Croucher speech…tut tut, naughty writers.
Also I forgot to include this speech from Des in LTDA1 After his escape attempt. “This is all there is left. This ocean and this place here. We are stuck in a bloody snow globe. There’s no outside world. There’s no escape.”
five—I think that connection to the allusion to Norman Croucher and Eve/rest is really well done. I don’t know if there’s going to be a literal result in the island being Everest in the future—but there is also the fact that Shangrila is supposed to lie in the Himalyas.
Jaz, I was not aware of the Shangrila myth/fiction, interesting stuff. I’m not sure the island will turn out to be Everest either! As Slusho mentioned, it’s all a bit Al Gore.
Good theory, if that type of scenario is in the future, the Himalayas would be the best bet.
