“So maybe he knew something about the plane before it crashed ”

Ok I was expecting to see a lot of theories about this each one more brilliant than the last… but it turns out there wasnt a single one. So i guess it up to me.
Remember episode 2 - it wasnt a very rememberable episode but the flashbacks were interesting. Aside from Miles being a secret member of Ghost-Busters and Charlotte finding a polar bear in a desert, I want to focus on Daniel’s flashback.
When I first saw it I thought that when he cried and didnt know why he was just sad because there was a big plane crash and for no good reason he felt sad for everyone on board. But then, when I saw episode four Eggtown, he was playing a memory game with Charlotte he could only remember 2 out of 3 cards. There is obviously something wrong with his brain and one of the side effects is short term memory loss. So maybe he knew something about the plane before it crashed and his brain can’t remember it, but he knows he should feel sad.
I can’t really think of a connection yet, but there must be some signifigance to that scene. Why would they put it in? The Miles scene was probably just a red herring to draw you away from the more important things???
Anyway I want to see more theories about those 4 flashbacks my fellow Losttheorians.

i kind of focused on the polar bear, so maybe that’s the red herring. i wrote a little bit about this episode so check it out if you like. i think the writers are trying to make our heads hurt by making us try to figure out what’s important to the story and what’s a coincidence. episode 4 hasn’t aired here yet so i’ll keep an eye out for daniel’s mentality +1
Hi Stickman, I totally agree there is something wrong with Daniel’s short term memory and for the writers to show that twice makes it important. He’s a genius, but something happened to him to make him lose his memory, I hope we find out because I do think it’s important. +1
Cheers annie and Scott its probably one of those things where he understands physics completley and gets it easily. But, he finds english hard, by the sounds of it.
Daniel does seem a little socially retarded, but most geniuses seem to be [usually on TV and in movies]. I am not so sure he has a memory problem. Maybe he has been on the island before and they blanked his memory much like Claire’s amnesia or maybe it wasn’t a flashback, maybe it was a flash forward to a time right after they get back from the island and the Oceanic 6 aren’t known about yet by the general public and his memory of the experience was wiped somehow but he feels an emotional connection to what happened on the island. They also made a point I felt to not show the face of the woman in that scene [I wonder who it is?]. The card game for me seemed more like an experiment, much like Desmond seeing into the future, except they were consciously trying to see the future when she would turn the cards over in the future he would see what they were and then remember it in the past, but maybe it is really fragmented like Desmond’s visions.
I had thought they were showing us that he was a psychic too. Like maybe an empath who can pick up on peoples emotions and feelings. My first thought was he had an Obi-Wan Kenobi moment “…as if a million voices cried out in terror… and were suddenly silenced.” Also, i think Charlotte saw the future somehow and that’s why she had that bulletproof vest on.
I’m not sure but it seems that Daniel is actually a very intuitive person and he also appears to be very aware of what is happening on the island with regards to the time difference. I think when they showed him not remembering the cards it could have been a reference to him already seeing what the cards were earlier or in another time…
The show is obviously going to deal more with time travel or being able to change the future through altering the past somehow and Daniel is there to study the effect/possibility of this. The only thing in the payload he sent for was a clock, nothing else. Obviously he wants to discover what the time difference is and what it means.
Charlotte doesn’t seem to be trying to help him with memory loss, she seems frustrated with him as if he knows what the cards are.
I believe in that scene with the cards, Charlote has a better idea of what they could be. So I agree that Daniel has something blocking his ability for prediction.(No wonder Naomi for some reason calls him a Nut Job)
I think Charlotte knew what the cards were due the her reaction shots after each card he named. She tried not to show on her face whether he was right or wrong, but it’s there on her face if you look close. I think she may have purposefully picked those cards and the experiment was an attempt to see if Daniel could too by “looking” into the future [or past] to see what they were. When she calls time and asks him what they were Daniel seems annoyed he only got 2 cards, but she says 2 out of 3 is not bad and that it is progress [meaning he wasn’t getting any cards or only 1 of 3 before] I don’t know why he says the comment “3 cards Charlotte, is that progress?” What kind of progress was he expecting is my question?
About Daniel’s Flashback where he is crying on seeing the news report of finding Flight 815,and asked by his unseen care-giver why he is so upset. I wonder, could she be Regina (on the freighter)The credits show Zoe Bell as the character of Regina ,as voice only in ” Confirmed Dead”,and also in the credits of “Eggtown”. That could be why they didn’t show her face, so later when they actually show Regina, they could also show her to have been Dan’s care-giver. Just a thought…..
I forgot to give you a +1
I thought the same thing! +1
Good catch stickman! I think the two scenes are connected. Something has happened to Daniel that has affected his memory, I hope tonights episode is going to explain this some more.+1
