During Kate’s trial, jack said there was 8 survivors of the crash. obviously the oceanic six (jack, kate, sayid, hurley known so far) are six of them, but who are the other two, and why does the world think they weren’t rescued to.
the most obvious reason is the other two died on the island. Of course as we know jack’s tale is a cover story, we can’t be sure if the two actually died on the island or not. So the world at large might think eco and charlie for example were the other survivors, or maybe not.
At the moment the only people we know the 4 mystery survivors can’t be are Ana-Lucia- cause her cop partner didn’t know what happened to her when he questioned hurley. Desmond, Juliet or Rousseau- cause they weren’t on the plane. Marshal Edward Mars- cause jack said he died in the crash. Rose, Bernard, Sawyer or Locke- are unlikely cause none of them want to leave the island.
that’s all I can think of, if i’ve missed any, please correct me.
Anyone any ideas who the mystery 4 could be?

law, Jack said there were 8 survivors of the crash, but 2 died.
the Claire, Kate, and Aaron angle will likely be resolved by explaining who the other two were. Of course we know this is a complete lie.
oops, missed that bit. still it’s strange jack and the others bothered to mention 2 others. you would think it’d create more questions they’d have to lie about. I wonder if theres any reason for it, though without knowing who the 2 are, it’s hard to speculate.

i thought that the two who died might be claire and charlie. they would say that claire died at or after giving birth to aaron(assuming claire is not one of the oceanic six which seems likely). if penelope told everyone about seeing charlie, they’d also have to explain this. they would say that he survived the crash but died somehow after. dont know how they’d explain the whole having communications on a deserted island though… not sure who else it would be beneficial to say survived the crash.
Ben and Juliette, or anyone else could have committed Identity Theft and stole the identity of someone that was a loner with no family on the manifest.
That would be dangerous, as some old friend from high school could say “That’s not him!” But it is an option.
Depending on the delay of the court case, Kate may have needed to look like she got pregnant on the island by someone other than Sayid, Jack or Hurley. That mystery father could have been reported to die before rescue.
Is the one in the casket one of the 6?
Jack states that his father is alive in the flash forward, in his fight with the Chief of Surgery at the hospital, when he says if he is drunker than his father upstairs, he can fire him. Maybe they make up a story that his dad wasn’t dead, and he survived the crash.
