“Why would Ben keep asking Locke what Jacob said if he himself can hear him?”
— shoegirl927
I think that Ben has Jacob trapped and for the record I think Ben is full of crap and he can’t hear Jacob talk at all! Maybe he can see him but he cannot hear him. When they were at the cabin Ben is (pretending) to talk to Jacob and Locke hears nothing . We know that John can hear him (Jacob) when he says “Help Me”, so if Ben was having a two way conversation with Jacob, which is what it appeared to be, why can’t John hear Jacob then? As Locke turns to leave he hears Jacob say “Help me.” John asks to Ben “What did you say?” This is where Ben realizes that Locke heard Jacob because Ben didn’t say anything at that time. At first I thought that Ben was asking him to “confirm” what he heard Jacob say when he asks John what he heard. In truth Ben doesn’t hear Jacob AT ALL. Why else does he keep asking John after he shoots him “What did Jacob say to you?”, John answers “Help me”. Ben says something like u need to help yourself and asks him again. If he has really heard Jacob he would have known that this is what he (Jacob) has said to John but he misinterprets it as John talking to him(Ben). Again John responds “Help me”. When Ben realizes that John heard Jacob he flipped out. Why would he need to keep asking him what Jacob said to him if he himself can hear Jacob talk? I know Ben can see his mom but has he ever heard her say anything? I can’t remember…
Ben is using Jacob as a way of controlling what “the others” do, by saying “Jacob wants us to do this or this”. If Jacob flips out it is because he is trapped and wants out and if people see this behavior they think “wow this is a bad person or a powerful entity” so we had better listen to Ben.. For all we know maybe Jacob isn’t a bad guy…but he probably is. And Ben knows that no one will ever figure out he is unable to hear Jacob because no one else can hear him either….until Locke shows up.

That same thing has crossed my mind, too. That Ben knows about Jacob, but does not actually hear anything.
OR Jacob has stopped talking to Ben. Which is making Ben very nervous and furious that Jacob had reached out to Locke and NOW Hurley.
I think that Ben has lost his abillity to hear Jacob…read my theory ‘The losties=Jacob, and they are in control!!!!’….it is a few posts before this one.
lostinnyc- That Jacob has stopped talking to Ben is a really good thought too. Jacob threw Ben across the room so he seemed pretty mad. I forgot about Hurley… THANKS for your nice comment.
OK -luv to hate lost - I will.
I think that when Ben began his desperate experiments to cure the pregnant women instead of helping Jacob with his work that’s when either Jacob stopped communicting with him, or Ben just lost his communion with the island/Jacob/alternate dimension Jack?
“I think that Ben has Jacob trapped” +1
Or perhaps Jacob can choose to speak only to certain people at certain times.
Clearly Locke can hear him and Ben can see him, beyond that I’m not sure, I tend to think Ben can also hear him and Locke will eventually see him.
How come I have 3 votes but only +1? I’m not sure how it works……
Nice thoughts shoegirl, that would explain why jacob pushed him across the room, I would too if someone was carrying on a conversation to my face and I wasn’t returning the favor………..Just a quick note about Ben and if he ever heard his mother, he did hear her in the episode where we met Ben and he took out Dharma. Remember he was going to escape, then saw his mom come out of the woods and she said to him its not time yet Benjamin, or something along those lines. But he did hear her. +1 for you!!
i don’t think ben has jacob trapped anymore. it explains why the cabin keeps a movin’ for hurley. also, i think it is possible that jacob can talk to whoever he wants without worry of anyone else hearing. in other words, he can talk to ben and not let anyone else hear him or he can talk to locke and do the same. jacob talking isn’t like anyone else talking. i think you more hear him in your head than with your ears. just my opinion.
All excellent ideas…
shoegirl: you’re at +3 with 5 votes, so 4 people voted you up, and one person voted you down
