The conversation between Ben and Widmore in the Ben “flash forward” was very interesting. The two things that caught my attention the most was the ways that Widmore referred to Ben,
First, he referred to Ben as “Benjamin”. Next, he referred to Ben as “boy” in a condescending way. The whole conversation in fact had a family tone to it, I thought.

The first thing that popped into my mind was that Widmore is Ben’s Uncle. My theory is that Widmore is Ben’s Uncle on his mother’s side. We know very little about Ben’s mother. How did Ben and his dad get to the island? IIRC, A friend hooked Ben’s Dad up with a job. It would make sense that Widmore - being highly successful - would want to “hide away” his worthless drunk brother in law and his kid. What better place to send them than the island?
What do you all think?

But we were told that Horace Goodspeed gave Roger a job at the Dharma Initiative, not Charles Widmore.
He’s from the future! You see, Charles is like Vader…
Yes I noticed both the ‘Benjamin’ and ‘boy’ in the dialogue and thought it conveyed either:
1) Widmore is playing on an age advantage (he’s much older perhaps) or
2) Widmore is a senior member of family or
3) Widmore was once his teacher or superior or in a role of authority over Ben.
4) Widmore is more powerful in whatever game they play
Joe,
What I meant to say, but didn’t present properly, was that Widmore would want to “quietly” move them to the island. In other words, he was the one who got them the job, but Mr. Goodspeed acted on his behalf.
OMG really great theory. I was thinking the same thing (Widmore as Ben’s uncle) thanks for posting this, makes me feel like I am not crazy for thinking it;-)
