The Giant greenish Mutant Bird

— IslandBound

Hello all,

Could a 1940’s era nuclear bomb create a crater like the one on the island?

Especially an old, 1940’s, unstable bomb, maybe the first every tested. mixed with the weird properties of the island…

Imagine the government FIRST tested there new creation/deathbomb, on their secret island, to see how long it would take for the habitat to return,

Then when they knew the bomb worked, then began testing and taping “we have all seen those famous tapes of the nuke testing in the 40’s and 50’s” to scare/impress the world.

The bio-hazard signs on all the hatches may have been legit long ago,

The giant mutant bird Hurley sees. radioactivity.. TMNT lol

Have fun, tear it up. bye all

Possibly, it could explain abnormalities up to a point, but there would be genetic mutations, stunted growth, etc still ,if life even were able to rebound that quickly. The crater seems more reminiscent of an old meteor hit to me. The actual size of a meteor would be much smaller than the crater itself, and the remnants buried deep. And if we’re talking thousands of years ago, time for nature to recover. Depending on the composition of the meteor, it could also account for many abnormalities.

    interesting..

i do feel like there could be a government/military influence at some point in the story….seems like this is all too big for them not to be involved somehow..

    Wow Ozzig,

A Meteor has been mentioned quite a bit, but i never really thought about that.

You are saying the Magnetic abnormalities are caused by the actual meteor remnants.

Maybe even a new element, never seen on earth yet. Or maybe just iron.

Thats cool. Thanks for the reply

    def possible

Can anyone think of anymore “mutations” from the Island.

    4 toed statue?

Hurleybird? We haven’t really gotten a good look at most of the wildlife. The spiders were creepy, but then that’s what all spiders are.

Also, there was a theory about the element Holmium, and you can check it out on WikiPedia re: strong magnetic properties. LostPedia likley has something on it as well. But it could tie in…

    Cool thanks.

Hurleybird?” Meaning the giant 60 pound parrot/ terradactyl that screamed hurley.

Hiroshima’s somewhat back to normal, and apparently chernoble’s habitat has returned, and actually flourishes in parts.

Could be, I’m not trying to put down your idea, sorry about that! The crater just makes more sense to me personally, but it can turn out either way (or something else entirely).

  10. IslandBound Apr 14, 2008 7:57 p.m. Comment: 10

No, thanks for the replies. I have believed in the “meteor” theory since I first saw the crater. Im with you.

Just wondering if perhaps, before the u.s.a taped all those nuke bombs tests to show/scare the world, perhaps they had some secret tests. Meteor does makes way more sense,

p.s thanks for the “Holmium” tip, interesting…..

I am an expert on bombs and such and it is within reason to postulate that the crater was in fact, the result of a massive thermonuclear detonation. +1

    Good theory +1

Maybe a biogenetic mutant will come out of the cave and attack Claire. Oh wait, that already happened in the Hills have Eyes. Do not watch that movie unless you enjoy being disturbed for days.

    LOL.

    Thanks Irocz28

ps. You have some wicked theories.

Thanks Island. I’m eager to put one out there but there really isn’t much to talk about during this break. The wait for a new episode is killing me.

Wow, Its almost time!!!! Im sure episode 9 will be f’n great. I hope….

I’m on the side of the meteor. I think it makes much more sense to say that a meteor hitting the island gave it (and particularly the area around the Swan) its EM properties.

Good idea though, and great discussion peeps! +1

I mentioned this way back and nobody seemed interested, but I new its time would come. +1

The link provides has information on the Black Rock impact crater in California: http://ian.kluft.com/blackrock/impact-crater/

I still think it is a clue.

The Island was formed by volcanic forces so I think it is just the crater of an extinct(?) volcano. If it was formed by an nuclear bomb detonated in the 1940’s, then I doubt the Black Rock Ship would still be on the island in the state it is in. Still, it’s interesting idea.

Interesting, but not likely. Remember young Ben’s teacher in the island school specifcally talked about the island’s volcano.

Besides, nukes don’t make craters anywhere near that big and one big enough to do so would irradiate the island for centuries, not 40 or 50 years.

I think the volcanic cone is just what it appears to be–volcanic.

I also believe that the volcano is going to play a major part in the series in the final seasons…I sense a post coming on :)

    (cue ominous music)

    MyStarbucks,

I was thinking an atomic bomb doesn’t create a crater, but after some searching found some information on Wiki about the Sedan Plowshare Crater which is roughly 1/4 of a mile in diameter. I have no clue how it compares to the size of the crater on the island though.

Here’s an interesting read with a human slant on atomic testing, radiation, and it’s long term effects on the environment: http://www.bikiniatoll.com/whatrad.html

I agree that the crater is volcanic .

Irocz28 - lol. THE scene with EdR (you know the one I mean) is the most disturbing thing I’ve seen since House of a 1000 Corpses.

  24. lockeko Apr 15, 2008 10:31 a.m. Comment: 24

I’d like to know how similar a volcanic crater and a nuclear crater would be?

  25. Irocz28 Apr 15, 2008 11:07 a.m. Comment: 25

LOL. I hear you man. I was messed up for a few days after watching that movie. I couldn’t get that scene out of my head.

that movie rocked, but the sequel was one of the worst movies I have ever seen

  27. IslandBound Apr 15, 2008 12:31 p.m. Comment: 27

take into account I don’t just mean a normal nuclear bomb. I’m thinking like a crappy prototype that, normally wouldn’t make a crater like that, put perhaps the “properties” effected the explosion some how.

    That movie is Insane.

I always thought that the crater was from the volcano?
