I have already discussed the attempt by Dharma to enhance theta consciousness. What if Jacob was a particularly gifted psychic. We know they were trying to establish some form of Utopia. What if Jacob was involved in research trying to establish the ‘good’ versus ‘bad’.
Because of Ben’s own ‘gifts’ in tapping into the theta consciousness, he would be aware of Jacob and his powers. Ben wants to set up his own Utopia and instigates the purge. He needs Jacob to help with this - problem is, he knows Jacob would assign him as ‘bad’. He somehow has Jacob trapped somewhere on the island (perhaps some wood cabin!). He can still access Jacob’s thoughts on good vs bad. Jacob’s psychic powers could include bilocation, but somehow Ben has isolated that power via the circle of ash. He may also have some telekinetic powers, hence his ability to throw Ben across the room. In the end, Jacob is Ben’s prisoner - and he needs to keep him trapped.
OK, not my best theory, but I’m convinced Jacob is Ben’s prisoner.

i agree Jacob is a prisoner of ben and asks locke for help to free him +1
Are you saying Jacob is just a guy with extra special powers? And that he is a living human being? Then why can only some people see Jacob? Why would ash trap him?
I do agree that Jacob is prisoner somehow, I just cant figure out how or why. +1
Perhaps Jacob is invisible which is why he says “save me”. See article…http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,345234,00.html
Seedy, Whether Jacob was ever human or not, I am uncertain. I do believe Jacob is being held captive, and that Ben is exploiting his powers. It is entirely plausible that Jacob possesses the powers of which you speak.
The black ash, amongst other things, likely keeps him in place for Ben. Nice work +1
I think that Ben sometimes channels Jacob. When Ben was about to take the bullet out of Sayid, he started out using Jacob’s voice, but then switched to his own voice. Ben may have said, “Help Me”, but didn’t realize it because he was possessed by Jacob.
hey maybe somehow ben is keeping jacob invisible, just an idea. your theory is great +1
seedy, +1 Another good one, I do agree with Dab’s comments on this one.
Seedman, I think Dab is right.
I certainly am not totally convinced about Jacob - all that God loves you as he loves Jacob stuff! I haven’t got that fully explained. Still possible that Ben is manipulating the whole thing and leading people to believe Jacob is some form of higher power!! Or maybe Jacob is some form of higher being. I’m open to all possibilities.
Locke told Ben, “I don’t think there is any Jacob. I think you are the Man Behind the Curtain, The Wizard of Oz”. What if Locke was right, and the entire scene in “Jacob’s” Cabin was a show meant to convince Locke than Ben does indeed tell the truth from time to time. The caveat would be of course then how did Hurley see the Cabin.
I think Jacob needs to make a major comeback when Lost Season 4 restarts at the end of the month. Its almost as if the writers forgot about Jacob when they starting writing story lines involving the freighter.
