Hello

As most of you know J.J. Abrams produced both Lost and Cloverfield. Whether for commercial or plot purposes links are to be found.

In the opening seconds of Cloverfield, see the Pearl Dharma logo in the bottom right.

logo

Rightly pointed out by JWlost, this logo suggests that the Cloverfield incident tape that makes up the film is now in the possession of Dharma.

In the Lost ARG (alternate reality game) Find 815 an image from Cloverfield can be found.

(also the lead characters name turns out to be Hawkins, other cross related names include Kelvin, Ethan and Henry)

As part of the Cloverfield ARG, the fictional company www.Tagruato.jp serves as a tie-in and adds to the mythology of Cloverfield. This company website is very Hanso esque. Anyway, my point……..

The Tagruato group made their billions drilling deep sea trenches then branched into other areas such as Bold Futura, Yoshida Medical Research, Slusho! brand happy drink, and ParafFun! Wax Distributors.

A quote from the Tagruato web site “Tagruato explores the final frontier on planet earth — the deepest recesses of our oceans. Our scientists and engineers have created drilling technology that can withstand degrees of extreme pressure, cold, and heat never before thought possible. This groundbreaking feat of industrial triumph allows for research and retrieval in areas previously unexplored by man.”

And a news story from the same website

Today, the Tagruato Cares Foundation unveiled its newest and most star-powered venture to date, Tagruato CEO Ganu Yoshida revealed the ParafFun Wax Museum……..The Museum is packed with life-sized models of people and characters significant to Japanese culture, from past Emperors to modern celebrities…….. Each sculpture, made entirely of 100% ParafFun wax, was handcrafted by skilled artists personally selected by Ganu.”

Wait, deep sea trenches, lifelike human models. If I wanted to sink a plane in an inaccessible trench and fill it with bodies for a one shot news report, I’d call Tagruato.

How would people feel if Cloverfield turned out to be in the Lost timeline? If for example the Cloverfield disaster was one potential outcome of ownership of the island changing hands.

JJ Abrams has said about Cloverfield, “The creative team has fleshed out an entire back-story which, if we’re lucky, we might get to explore in future films.” Wonder what that back-story could be??

Great post. I liked the Dharma logo in the title - but otherwise I’d prefer Cloverfield and Lost to remain distinct. If the plan is to enhance the ‘mythology’ of Cloverfield with future films concerned with where the monster came from, or who knows what else, then great. I’m all for it. But let’s leave Lost mythology to Lost.

Reminds me of when those E.T’s showed up in The Phantom Menace. It was an amusing crossover, but for many it crossed a too cute, too self-referential line that I can appreciate would be annoying if it became any more blatant or pronounced.

ET? Star Wars? I had not seen that.

It’s funny, with all the freedom fiction has to offer, most of us prefer order and hate crossovers. Are crossovers seen as tacky?

Has there ever been a successful major show/film crossover?

Five: It’s in the senate scene. Where that guy who was a baddie in Superman (Chancellor Valorum) stands down and allows the guy that will eventually become the Emperor to stand forward as the new ambassador.

There are all those flying box seats around the arena, with all different kinds of aliens (wookiees, etc) in them and, in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, a group of E.T.s can be seen in their own pod.

It’s tolerable. Star Wars references have crept into Indiana Jones (Club Obi-Wan, R2-D2 in the ark’s sanctum) as easter eggs, for example. But they’re only tolerable as easter eggs, I think.

Successful crossovers? Nothing springs to mind. But maybe other people know some. . .

five: Interesting notions. I for one would not mind a little crossover and think that it might just work. I honestly dont see a problem with more of the backstory becoming a tie in with future motion pictures. Just the notion that we will see a bigger story of Lost anthology is entertaining. Knowing that the story is slated to end in a couple of years is disappointing. why not extend the life of a great story by filling in more of the mysteries. Yesterday someone posted the idea that Lost was based on the book Mysterious Island, by Jules Verne. They mention that the character of Capt Nemo is part of the mystery of the island. Where as I believe that the series is based on bits and pieces of past literature, the crossover from Twenty thousand Leagues under the Sea, worked it that instance.

All I am saying is the more the merryier!! Give us more to piece together to help solve this wonderful riddle that is Lost. +1

This could also fit in with The Watchmen.

In it there is this island where all the great artist, writers, scientists are rought together to save mankind. What they do is create a “monster from outerspace” and teleport it to the middle of New York. This kills thousands of people and stops the U.S. and Russia from nuking each other.

    bit of a stretch though.

lateralus, I had forgotten about Watchmen!! Good Call

Damon Lindelof called Watchmen “the greatest piece of popular fiction ever produced”.”

    There are tons of connections

Five there was a successful crossover with The X Files and Millenium

Both the X-Files and Millennium were Fox Network, Chris Carter created, conspiracy driven creepfests.

This site discusses this crossover and gives some more examples of crossovers between different television series.

Kinda off the subject, but I heard Cloverfield really sucked. Is this true, or do my friends just have bad taste in movies? They don’t like Lost, so I would understand if they were wrong about Cloverfield.

One of my favorite crossover efforts of all time(no sci-fi, sorry), is a film called ‘Curdled’ In Pulp Fiction, the taxi driver is a hispanic woman who asks Bruce Willis ‘what does it feel like to kill a man?’. Curdled is a film about a female EMS worker obsessed with death, played by the same actresss, with the same character name….basically an entire film written about a minor part in Pulp Fiction. To top it off, in Curdled, there’s a breaking news announcement on television of two murderous outlaws, and mugshots of Quentin Tarantino & George Clooney are put up on the screen, tying Curdled and Pulp Fiction into Til Dusk Til Dawn. I

Master craftmanship as far as I’m concerned.

rise!Hi long time no see! Curdled is awesome and I love the premise after the killer kills, after the living are dead, somebody has to clean up the mess.

    Absolute craftmanship for sure.

Okay, we’ve established that crossovers are not always tacky and there are some fine examples above.

Bring on a rich tapestry of crossovers.

Wtf interesting about the apollo bars
