- Flag this theory:
Ben has been devoting alot of time and an enormous effort to solving the problem of the fatal pregnancies on the island. But in Richard’s conversation with Locke in ‘the Brig’, Richard indicates that he believes that the pregnancy issue is a distraction from whatever it is that the Other’s should be doing.
So we can take it as given that Ben has a personal interest in this particular island mystery.
A lot of theorist’s have connected this to his the character of Annie, Ben’s childhood friend, and who also possibly became his girlfriend in later years.
And concerning the fate of Annie most theorist’s specualate that she was either killed during The Purge or that she became pregnant with Ben’s child and died as a result.
So I was thinking that the Dharma Initiative did research into lot’s of different areas of science on the island, and that perhap’s they had developed some form of suspended animation technology.
My theory is that Annie did become pregnant with Ben’s child and that Ben already knew what this would mean having seen other instance’s of it already. But that Ben had access to suspended animation technology developed by the DI (possibly Cryogenic or perhap’s even some form of time-slowing device related to the electro-magnetism?) and he has placed her inside it while he figure’s out a way to cure the pregnancy problem.
I no there’s no evidence of the DI developing suspended animation, but why not? I think this would go some way to explaining the significance of Annie’s character.
I also think it might be why Ben kidnapped Alex and raised her as his own daughter, - he wanted to practice for the real thing!

I think this is a good thought, CPB.
Yeah I like this idea…way to think outside the box!
CPB…I think it would be awesome if Ben is in fact trying somehow to save Annie and their child. Its def indicated that he has a personal interest in the pregnancy issues. As long as it doesnt play out like the Bride of Frankenstein..j/k +1
Thanks guys, I think another thing that back up this theory I can’t remember were, but there was an interview with Michael Emerson somewhere in which he refered to Ben as ‘a romantic’ , and in most of his interviews it appears that Emerson is privy to alot of plot information.
hmm…interesting……..I’m ALL for romance!
Ya know…. I could see that about Ben…that he could possibly have a ‘romantic’ side. Soooo, either the Michael Emerson statement is true…
OR
What is wrong with me? ….
CPB: I gave you a +1 because I really liked 99% of your theory. Ben definitely is working his own agenda on the pregnancy issue and Richard called in on it. In fact, it’s more like an obsession. Definitely would have something to do with Annie.
With all of the experiments that have gone one, we have no idea whether cryogenics is one of them. So we can’t rule it out.
My problem is with Ben kidnapping Alex to practice fatherhood. This just doesn’t make any sense to me, nor does seeing Ben as the romantic. eeeeeeeeewwww
PG: lol
or all the experiments that have gone on…
sorry guys, I’m not buying this one. while I like the creativity and will +1 the idea for originality, there is no evidence of cryogenic experiments on the island. I’m not saying that this is impossible or that the writers can not choose to go down this road, I just don’t think they’ve left any indication as of now that cryogenics is a plausible direction of the show. But, there are several seasons left and many episodes to film so who knows?
CPB, I also think this is very creative. I have a feeling the story won’t take that route but I like it.
Let’s say it was true. Maybe Richard was a test subject of the technology. That could explain his lack of aging.
Yeah Sham - I like your angle on Alpert.
CPB: I agree Ben is motivated (obsessed) with trying to find a way to save (re-create? bring back?) Annie, but I don’t think it’s thru cryogenics. I think its thru the bi-location process we saw in the Orchid video that some answers will come.
What do you think about the XRay Juliet examines was of Annie?
I just watched “Vanilla Sky” again. If you haven’t seen it it’s worth a look see. It deals with cryogenics and lucid dreams.

Whistling Good Vibrations
The more I think about it, the less I’m opposed to seeing this become a plot element in Lost.
I like your idea on the X-ray Juliet was shown Stippo.
good post CPB, I just watched that episode again and Richard uses the words “Bens been wasting our time with [slight pause] ….novelties like fertility problems”
Interesting word to use, Novelties (plural too), and what is it about Richard, which if you like, authorises him, to use the word Novelties.
He used the word behind Ben’s back & also said “We’re looking for someone to remind us we’re here for more important reasons”
almost as if the death of unborn children conceived on the island and their mothers is just not important to whatever the bigger picture is.
then telling Locke that in order for him to “find his purpose” that his father “has to go” i.e. be killed, almost as if that’s okay too, to murder someone. All very curious!
I found your theory intersting and as you say, there is no evidence of suspended animation so far but why not! it could come to pass.
Shamballa: Vanilla Sky Rocks!
I like this very much although I agree that I don’t think the producers will go down that road, but its still a great theory.
i agree with sleepz. I cannot imagine Ben freezing Annie with his unborn child.
