So, wadda you think?
— JinLover
As my name may suggest, I am extremely reluctant to start pointing the finger at my Korean lover-man, but having just read the post on how Sayid could be the plant, I am lead more and more in the direction of Jin possibly working for the others. Please please please feel free to debunk this, as I don’t want to have to go over to the dark side. Also, sorry if this has been covered already, but I only have 5 mins of my lunch break left, and don’t have time to do a search.
Ok, here goes… My thoughts started at the end of series 3, when Jin was the only one out of the three men not to hit the dynamite: maybe he didn’t want to kill anyone he was working with. Then I got thinking about the watch. Now, I’m not too clued up on the Lost experience, and am not entirely sure about Paik’s connection to the island, but is it possible that the watch had a tracker in it? This could not only help the outside world to find the island, but could also have helped the others to find the raft. Finally - and this is a very loose assumption - who would suspect the only person on the island who doesn’t speak any English? Like he tells Sun, he knows more English than anyone thinks he does. It’s the perfect cover for someone who is collecting information.

I don’t think this has been brought up before…and it seems very possible to me. Afterall, he is a company man and very loyal.
I also like the idea of the watch having a tracking device in it….although he gave it to Michael, Michael never left the island so it’s still applicable.
First off I have to say I hope Jin isnt playing the Losties. But you make very good points jinlover. I think the idea of the tracking device being in the watch has been suggested before, and I think its likely right.+1
Yea, I don’t like the idea of Jin being a plant, at the end of the day, i rather like him…..but it is possible. almost anything’s possible at this point! :)
I think it was strange that in all the flashbacks of ppl at the ticket counter at the airport. Jin was in the same spot almost over their shoulder in all the flasbacks +1
I thought I read somewhere that Sun and Jin weren’t originally supposed to be main characters or even on the show at all. If that’s the case then I doubt the producers would give them such a prominent role in the conspiracy. I may be wrong….
Congrats on your first theory, JinLover. You bring up some very good points about Jin. He would be the perfect mole, wouldn’t he?
+1, but I agree with you and the others, I really don’t want it to be Jin. I, too, was starting to enjoy the new relationship he and Sun were sharing.
Good work. :-)
Thanks guys. I’m glad I’m not the only person who wants Jin to be a goodie ;-)
Chimera - I’d read that too. But if you think about it, Jack and Des (to name a couple) were originally only meant to be tiny roles, but they’ve been expanded.
Interesting theory, but in the spirit of scientific inquiry, I offer the following challenges:
— Who says there has to be a mole? Just because Expose’ had one? This seems to be a bit of a stretch, especially because when Lost wants to give us clues about something, the show offers many clues.
— The Expose’ story wasn’t about a mole, it was about a bad guy leader with a hidden identity. No Lostie could be this bad guy leader, since we’ve already seen numerous flashbacks for each of them.
— If there is a surprise character twist coming up, who says it has it be a Lostie? It could be Alpert, Danielle, Jacob, or anybody, really.
— If transmissions were being simultaneously jammed by the Looking Glass and the Radio Tower, I don’t think anything inside a watch could be sucessfully used for tracking.
Despite all this, I like how you’ve tied your theory to the show, especially giving an explanation of why Jin missed.
That’s a lotta questions! One at a time… No one says there has to be a mole, but I don’t think that anyone on the island is completely on the level. I don’t think, however, that any of the Losties is the others’ leader, just a double agent. I think that a character has to be very well established before it can be twisted, which is why I won’t comment on Alpert or Jacob. There’s a lot more to Danielle than meets the eye, but I’ll save that for another theory. As far as the jamming goes, I hadn’t thought about that, but didn’t that only start after the hatch exploded and the sky went purple? I thought Ben only sent Bonnie and whats-her-name down there after that? I could be wrong, though.
But, work is over now, and I’m off home to my internet-free house. I’ll look forward to reading any more comments tomorrow ;-)
Well Jin did miss the dynamite but he was pretty dead on with the rounds he put into the chest of the guys shooting at him. In the end I hope Jin is a good guy I really dig th dynamic that his character give the show.
Good theory!!!! +1 Why not have a person on the inside with the losties. I think Desmond is also playing the losties as well. I think the two people in that cave (Romeo and Juliet) are Desmond and Penny. I have a theory about this that I will post as soon as I proofread it. Anyway, good post JinL
JinL: Way to come out of the box with both barrels blaring!!! Excellent first post,
The comment that I would make on the Jin character is that the show has given a lot of development to the Jin+Sun relationship. To think that these two are not pivotal storyline characters would be a mistake. The couples intregal involvement with Paik industies, should be proof positive that their characters will have major implications to the ultimate outcome of the show. I just wonder if the intended theme of Expose’ was in fact to insinuate the placement of a mole or was it just to show that We have a false prophet in the mix. I would tend to believe that the intention was the later.
I guess it all boils down to the question of Jins intentions. Is he devoted to Sun and adheres to the deeds of the father, begrudgingly. Or is he a company man willing to forsake his wife for the good of the team?
Didn’t the others boat travel in the opposite direction when they couldn’t find their raft? It wasn’t until Michael used the flare that the others boat managed to find them, if there were a tracking device present in the watch then wouldn’t they have found them directly without the flare? If there is a mole, I doubt it’s Jin.
Welcome, Jin! I would be very reluctant to look at Jin as any kind of mole! If, there is a mole, there are several other characters, who would fit into the category, better than he does. I just don’t see him as being clever enough to play that type of role.
I do, think that the watch plays some significance, in the story, and the idea of a tracking device or some other purpose would play into the story nicely. However, in saying that, I believe it would be without Jin’s expressed knowledge.
I do think that there was a tracking device on the watch Jin had but I don’t think he is working for the Others or Dharma.
Karmavore….I do believe there is a mole in the losties camp.On at least two occasions Jack has mentioned to an ‘Other’ character, that they sent a spy into the Losties camp.He says it to Tom ,when they have the confrontation at the ‘line’ , and he mentions it to Ben in the Hydra. Both times when he says it,Ben and Tom looked concerned, and then he clarifies his accusation by saying ‘Ethan’,and they look relieved.
Has any one else noticed this?
ooo nice pick up wtf. I do think the watch is a tracking device but that doesn’t mean jin is the mole. I’m pretty convinced Kate is a mole but not for the others (but for Dharma). Would it be too much if there’s a Dharma one and an others one—maybe the others mole is Aaron—not, obviously in a conscious sense, but through the implant?
Around the time that Expose aired…TPTB were announcing there would be a snake in the mailbox….I, along with some others, assumed that the “cobra aspect of Expose suggested that there was a mole in the losties camp, that perhaps a lostie was a double agent. It certainly would make for very interesting television.
Thanks everyone. Much food for thought… and I’m so glad Jin is as popular with everyione else as he is with me. I’m beginning to think that he may be an unwilling mole, but I’ll need to look more into Paik’s connection to the island before I start making any more wild accusations!
I guess Jin being so ready to go after Michael with Eko in tow is the first thing that comes into my mind to support this: maybe he knew he probably wouldn’t get hurt, could slow down the survivors’ progress to the other beach allowing the Others to pick off more of them, and maybe bring some of the Tail Section survivors with him to the Others. The Tailies that came would be altruistic, “good people.” Or they could have reasons like Sawyer in The Hunting Party for going along, I guess. Sawyer was later taken by Ben through Michael, though…
JazProf: I’m glad someone else thinks that Kate is a mole for Dharma.
When I last rewatched the first few episodes of the first series, she seems to “know” a little too much about Ole Smokie than if someone had no clue about it. For example on the way back from the cockpit she asks Charlie in a really anxious voice “Did you see it?” as if she was worried someone else knew about it already. And then the next day she says to Jack “You know whats out there”.
Both those comments seemed odd to me. It could be nothing, but it certainly got me musing.
I think Sayid and Jin are the moles as they are the only actors who use an accent or language other than their natural voice??
On a more serious note, i agree with the watch being a tracking device. In “House of the Rising Sun”.
I have pasted a little of the episodes transcript for your thirsty eyes, i think theres some goodies in there.
michael: You speak English?
SUN: Yes.
michael: What? You speak English? Why didn’t you say anything?
SUN: My husband doesn’t know.
michael: Why would you learn English and not tell your husband?
SUN: He has a bad temper. What my husband did to you today, it was a misunderstanding.
michael: No. I got it. Loud and clear.
SUN: It was the watch. !!!!!!!!!!!
michael: Your husband tried to murder me for a watch? [Michael removes the watch] I found this watch two days ago. !!!!!!!!!!!
SUN: It belongs to my father. “!!!!!!!Protecting that watch is a question of honor.
michael: He calls trying to kill me in front of my kid, honor?
SUN: You don’t know my father. I need your help.
michael: I know you can’t understand a word, and normally I’m not the talking out loud type, but since I have a captive audience, I hope for your sake you pay attention. I’m not exactly having the best month of my life. I barely knew my son, and now, I gotta be his daddy. And then to top if off, I have a deranged Korean guy trying to kill me and for what? Look, I get it, right [takes the watch out of his pocket]. It’s the watch. Mine broke and I found this in the wreckage, and I figured, hey, why let a $20,000 dollar watch go to waste which is ridiculous ……….
………………….since time doesn’t matter on a damn island.
I beleieve Jin nearly failed at keeping the tracking device out of harms way!!
This would explain how the boat (paik heavy freighter) has found the island!!!
Mr Paik’s watch
Mr Paik’s Heavy Industries Boat!!
Make Sense
+1 from me
