This theory is based on Free will Fate/Destiny/Ben by holiday. You may wish to read it before continuing.
“Despite my initial (and continued) reticence, it seems that fate has dealt its card. We may have no choice but to fall back to the original island target. While THF has not utilized the site for some time, its unique properties render it more than adequate for our purposes at this particular juncture.” -Spider Protocol Memo
— Trudy
In the Lost Experience ARG a hospital ship called the Helgus Antonius was being built in a joint venture between Paik Heavy Industries (Sun’s father’s company) and the Hanso Group. My theory is that the ship that Naomi was from and the ship they called for help to is the Helgus Antonius.
Rachel of the Lost Experience uncovers the blueprints of the ship which has hospital wards labelled “Quarantine” like the Hatch door. This ship is believed to be a part of the Spider Protocol, an operation to help solve the Valenzetti equation. If Ben has any knowledge of the Spider Protocol beforehand this may be why he warns Jack that it would be the end and that he won’t help his people as the Spider Protocol involves killing a large amount of people through sickness. In the Spider Protocol Memo from the ARG this is mentioned: “Despite my initial (and continued) reticence, it seems that fate has dealt its card. We may have no choice but to fall back to the original island target. While THF has not utilized the site for some time, its unique properties render it more than adequate for our purposes at this particular juncture.”
The Hanso Group is already connected to a particular island with unique properties through the Black Rock and the dharma Initiative.
The satellite phone that Niaomi is carrying Sayid mentions is very sophisticated, one he had never seen before. The Widmore Corporation has been suggested to have connections to Hanso Foundation and Paik Heavy Industries which could explain why Naiomi had a picture of Desmond and knew about Penny even though that was not her boat. Maybe this is why Jack is so destroyed later on, guilty with the knowledge that he was the reason so many of the Losties died. (At least he would think that becasue he is that kind of guy). Hope this is clear I am writing this late in the evening, I am tired and this is the first time I had written on here.

I didn’t do the lost experience thing, but the idea that the island be used for an experiment where they inflict people with an illness, knowing that they may be cured is a good one. +1
I didn’t participate in the lost experience either but I’m always intrigued whenever theories pop up about it. My biggest question is, things that happened in TLE, are we supposed to believe them to be true to the show?? I’ve heard yes and no to that question, so I’m still lost:)
I know about the ship that Paik Heavy built for the Hanso foundation….but I thought that was done in the 60’s or whenever the DI was initially formed? Or are you saying another ship was built also?
I’m new to this too. Is the Lost Experience over? Is it possible for me to go to some site now and experience the entire thing?
Chimera,I’m certainly less qualified to answer you than those that played the game. BUT, I believe the game lasted during the first two seasons of the show. If you go to the website, you can read about what happened, but it’s too late to actually play. I do know that it was made with the help of, or by, CC and JA…so I find it hard to believe that the knowledge gained while playing has NO significance or relevance to the show at all…
Welcome, Trudy!
I also don’t know very much about “The Lost Experience”, but have heard that the writers say it is only a marketing tool. However, that being said, I definitely think your theory has merit to it! Nice job & Well done! +1
Zaba, the experiement from TLE was to inflict a population with an illness so that they die, not to see if they had been cured. They wanted (needed?) to kill people to change the “core factors” of the Valenzetti equation (4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42) which predicts the demise of the human race. In a nutshell, if enough people die, the human race goes on.
+1 from me Trudy..This would be cool,(well cool but depressing LOL).Not sure how much we can depend on LE for clues to the show though.
Thank you for your comments. Nickee, I do not know anything about the timeline of the ship being made but the Spider Protocol memo is dated for 2006. That is where there is a problem with my theory now that you mentioned that, the timeline of the Spider Protocol would take place two years after the plane crash,
dabiatchishere, I have also heard that the LE was more meant to be a way to tell background of the Lost universe that would not be able to address through the show as it has no direct relevance to the characters. Besides not everyone took part in it so not everyone would understand the connection. Still, it would be neat if the two were tied toogether a little more.
good theory trudy welcome to the site, happy posting
you just blew my mind. i love the ARG stuff! but are they going to throw that stuff in as most of the regular viewing audience didn’t play the ARG and might be… uh… LOST?
I came to a similar conclusion tonight after researching various LOST threads on the internet (Hanso Foundation, etc…). It all wound up leading to the Helgus Antonius, PAIK Heavy Industries, Widmore, etc…
It makes a LOT of sense since Ben specifically warns that if the ship is contacted, “Then every living person on this island will die”. It’s as if he knows the goal of the ship is to infect the island with a terrible virus.
What is a little odd is Ben’s use of the phrase, “Every living person will die”. It lends support to another theory I’m investigating - that some of the Others are in fact androids. Richard Alpert, who never seems to age, would fit that bill, and would, of course, be impervious to the virus.
A related concept in wrokds associated with books the Losties are reading on the Island, are similar to Blade Runner/Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep, by Philip K. Dick. Is the Island part of an attempt to see how androids might inherit the earth?
