LOST-Theories.com

This is the first time i’ve posted a theory, although i’ve been reading the theories for a month or so, and i have to say i’m really impressed to find that there are people out there just as devoted to the show as i am, and so many great theories!! So here goes hope you like my contribution… So i’m not saying that this is a fully formed theory on the whole show, but the many thoughts i have about the show, sometimes small sometimes big. What i’ve found i think u’ll find quite interesting. Like i say I don’t know exactly this stuff fits into the grand design of Lost, but i’m sure what i’ve discovered has defin8ly influenced the writers. Read on and be enlightened!! Feedback would be much apprieci8ed.

OK, last year as the second season was airing, i was reading a book on the decoding of peruvian tombs when i stumbled across a chapter about reincarnation featuring a report on the dalai Lama. What initially caught my eye was the cadacus (or the staff!) symbol, and after spotting it inside the Dharma logo in the episode Maternity Leave. The buddist version features both a black and white snake climbing the staff, and @ the top the birds wings. The description says that “through the forces of dark and light cancelling eachother out enlightenment can be achieved.

” Now the snakes criss cross eachother a few times on the cadacus and when a human body is superimposed over the top in that yoga position where the legs are crossed and the backs of the hands rest on the knees (sorry i don’t know the official term). This is supposed to represent how the energies flow through the body around the chakras inside the body. Stay with me, i promise it gets more interesting…The chakras are percieved to be wheels inside the body that when spinning in the correct manner light will appear through the top of the head. Again this can be seen in other relgions and cultures, for example in christianity it is the halo. Now in many ancient cultures the feathered snake appears, and can b seen throughout ancient Peru, Greece,(connections with the four toed statue???) Cambodia, and Egypt. In these ancient beliefs Quetzecoatl (just one of it’s names) nearly always relates to the journey to heaven/stars. I’m aware that the cadacus is a symbol that is commonly used for medical vehicles in America, but this version only appears to have one snake.

Anyway to move on,,, as i continued to read, i came across a diagram of what happens when the chakras are out of sync. The diagram shows a nursing mother, and according to the book in the buddist faith, mothers are unable to achieve enlightenment, for once the child is born, the energies from the chakras, points away from the head and toward the newborn child! Surely the fact that the cadacus appeared on the medical station where heavily pregnant Claire was taken is intentional. Also the 2 chakras that appear in the head of the mother (the crown and brow chakras) are represented by a black spot and a white spot! As we have seen reoccur many times throughout the first season.

Anyway, as i continued through the book i came upon 2 very interesting diagrams displaying a theory called “The theory of iterative spiritual redemption and god growth”. The jist of the theory which tries to incorpor8 both Christianity and Buddism, is that the only thing better than God is more God. @ the top of the diagram it shows God. God = Light =Electromagnetic energy. When God created the physical universe he had 2 spend some of himself (The son), and once man was created, souls were given to him (the holy ghost). The middle of the diagram shows the physical world as the sun, stars, and a monkey climbing a tree, with souls descending into a man and a woman who are stood of to the left. Underneath them is written “choice” and just to th right it shows 3 corpses of different sizes. Below “choice” the souls then pass through the soul world ( written in a circle) and then appear the words Love in a white box, and Hate in a black box, the souls are then divided, those that chose Hate are transported back to the physical world. Those that chose love go back to God, hence God Grows.

Other than the obvious connection of the black and white, love and hate, i noticed that the monkey climbing the tree was part of the wall decoration in the nursery that was created for Aaron. All the other animals match apart from the monkey!!! Also the second diagram elabor8s on the Soul world, it consists of 2 parts, the Paradises, and the Underworld. Wan’t the translation of the red hyroglyphics “Underworld”???

The Soul world diagram shows that as souls pass through it there are 3 kinds of souls. Pure souls which are directed straight back to God. I originally theorized that this is why the children were taken, for they had,had no chance to sin. but it seems they remain on the island. Then there are purified souls, those who have sinned, but atoned or repented. Could this explain why Eko survived his first encounter with Smokie? It clearly scanned him and assessed his sins! But was removed from the Paradise, when he “asked for no forgivness”. Could Smokie be the Grim Reaper, or a “Security system” designed to elimin8 anyone who does not regret their sins. Finally there are unpure souls who as i explained continue on to the physical world, i did think this is where Micheal was heading after his transgressions. well that’s the book. There are a few other things i wanted to bring up.

Another thought i had, was how all these characters ended up on the plane 2gether. WALT!!! All the characters clearly are linked, by paternal disharmony, could it be that Walt with his ability to draw things to him, (the bird, the bear) during his discomfort in meeting his father, unconciously drew all our survivers 2gether.

Please let me know what u think of my writings. I’ll post another 2nite. Jus so tired. Take care 4 now Lostites!! Namaste

I’d prefer this broken into paragraphs and I’ll need more convincing about the idea of Walt being the pivotal draw for all the other passengers being on the plane… However. . .

mothers are unable to achieve enlightenment, for once the child is born, the energies from the chakras, points away from the head and toward the newborn child!”

This is top notch stuff, along with the rest of the business to do with the ‘Underworld’ symbols. There’s compelling stuff here to argue a case of belief in the Island represses the capacity for motherhood from this material.

Intelligent material entertainingly written (barring the lack of paragraphs!). Big +1 from me.

jamcat, welcome and congrats on an excellent first theory! Wonderful connections on the staff and the stones.

I do agree with Angelo though, I’ll need some convincing about Walt also. But you get a huge +1 from me too.

    Looking forward to reading more!

Awesome theory, Jamcat! I like the research and the unique approach given to us. Nicely written! Big +1 for originality!

I do happen to agree with you about Walt! After all, one cannot deny that Walt keeps appearing on “the island”, with no physical reason for him to be there. He definitely has paranormal abilities. This was even pointed out by Miss Klugh, and Walt’s stepfather. I am uncertain, though if his abilities will serve as good, or evil.

I agree with every one else. This is a great theory ,Jam. +1. If you want to put paragraphs in just click edit and leave two lines between paragraphs. If you only leave one line, it shows up as block form.

looking forward to reading more of your theories.

I wonder if Smokey is always chasing Kate because she seems to show no remorse for killing her dad?.

This was a really interesting read, looking forward to your next theory. Am also wondering if Walt is good or bad and what part he will play in the overall plot of LOST.

Cheers for the heads up about the paragraph folks, i’ve amended the mistakes. will try and post another theory 2morrow.

wow, a good theory. i like learning about new religions espescially in ways that pertain to LOST! i’ve read a series of books through OPEN COURT publishing (http://www.opencourtbooks.com/categories/pcp.htm) on POP culture and philosphy and i keep hoping against hope for a LOST and philosophy title to pop up amongst the forthcoming titles! sigh, maybe u could send your theory to them to get them started. haha. it’s definately in the right vein.

First of all, why put “defin8ly” in the middle of your writing? Did you really save a lot of time? Or are you trying to communicate youth and hipness? To be taken seriously, you might want to consider standard English.

You start off like many here do. The theory goes like this:

    I was reading/watching a book/show about Egyptian brickmaking/Chinese New Year/The History of Photography/Chloraphyll/Persian carpet weaving.

On LOST, I noticed that there was mud/asian people/a picture/plants/carpeting on the airplane aisle.

THESE TWO THINGS MUST BE related!!!!!!

It is called the recency effect. It is not reality. It is merely your brain trying to make patterns so that it can better understand the world. Sometimes it breaks down. As now.

Plus one for not being a troll.

Wow Jamcat! I love this—very well thought out and researched. One idea about what you said about Walt—the idea that he drew people with father issues. I wonder if both Walt and Aaron are drawing people—Walt, the people with father issues, Aaron drawing people to become fathers? It would be another version of opposing forces possibly cancelling each other out.

Speaking of which—Smokie—yeah I think that’s right, and having just read Dharmacide’s post on “3 minutes” I think of the way in which Smokie might be the “dog” waiting in hell that’s alluded to in Eko’s story in that episode.

There’s a brilliant post about shamanistic qualities of the island generall made by the every talented Miss katrinicity which I think fits with what you are saying as well (ties in to the caduceus for one thing): http://lost-theories.com/theories/2007/oct/23/dissecting-shaman-connections/
