I don’t know what I am talking about

— fivestades

Not so much a theory but string of quotes. For those who believe Jacob is ‘trapped’ and those who like a bit of quant-phys

Indium antimonide is a crystalline compound made from the elements indium and antimony. It has the appearance of dark grey silvery metal pieces or powder with vitreous lustre.”

A layer of indium antimonide sandwiched between layers of aluminium indium antimonide can act as a quantum well. ”

A quantum well is a potential well that confines particles, which were originally free to move in three dimensions, to two dimensions, forcing them to occupy a planar region”

In relation to Schrödinger’s cat (Copenhagen Interpretation). Could Jacobs image repeatedly collapse into one of two potential states, audible or not, visible or not, dead or not Could Locke ‘observe’ Jacob differently to the way Ben ‘observes’ him?

the facts of this matter are that the only thing we’ve practically managed to use a quantum well on so far is electricity, which is the simplest energy form to manipulate next to heat. We aren’t anywhere near being able to force the energy of strings themselves to do our bidding. The largest thing sent through a quantum well is a single atom. That was terribly difficulty for modern scientists and after it went through the quantum well, it got lost. The lost atom couldn’t be located or retrieved, so it is unknown if the atom even made it to another dimension. Clearly, we have some bugs to work out before we try to use quantum wells to make any sort of structure that’s dimensionally transcendental.”

I still believe the island is full of futuristic leftovers (smokie, four toed statue) either built and abandoned in the future (our past of course, the island being accessible by any time) or built in our past via instruction from the future. Could Jacobs prison be a simple but effective futuristic prison?

I don’t know what I am talking about but as Arthur C. Clarke said “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”

Oh, I love this theory. Not because it is plausible, in fact I don’t think it is, but because of the scientific information and relevance to the Island’s other mysteries. I think Ben both saw and heard Jacob, but John only heard him because he wasn’t ready/supposed to see him. +1 from me and keep theorizing.

I as the observer on my couch sitting at home and watching heard Jacob as well. Also, I saw him as well. Is my perspective, thanks to my television an objective one above Locke’s/Ben’s subjective perception. The perspective of the TV is a comfortable one, and convinces me that what I perceive is objective reality. This is why we are Lost.

A fresh idea that does in fact make logical sense. Science/magic its an interesting angle that what we see isnt always what we percieve it to be. Good job +1

Five, What an enjoyable theory you put together. I really like the ideas set forth pertaining to Jacob. Plausible. Lately I have been wondering if the anomaly of “the island”, is that it exists in a place of non-existence, where it is unaffected by the normal time and space constraints. Nice work! +1

Dab, again we think alike. How old are you ;-)

And sorry, but I have missed this: Where is Jacob seen? Apart from all the hallucinations (assuming my theory is correct)? Maybe I’m dumb, but I don’t remember seeing Jacob at any point.

Hi Beyond, Thanks. The book is great! (This idea ties in a little bit!) Looking forward to your opinion. There is a second book which I will also get, and a third……..not released till 2009 though…..how very convenient!

So who on the show spends an entire episode explaining this? they should save that one for febuary or may sweeps.

    I”m surrounded by idiots.

someone here said something like, if it isnt intresting and you cant explain it in 45 minutes its wrong.

Shamballa: well said. I thought so when I originally said it, too.

BTW, you guys, run your mouse over shamballa’s name and look at the info in your status bar. We have sham, but no balla.
