“Off to see the hostiles, are you?”
— Fresh
In the epsiode Live Together, Die Alone in the second series Sayid is asking Desmond if he can use his boat to sail to the North shore of the island.
Desmond replies to his question by saying “Off to see the hostiles, are you?” Sayid asks him about what he means but Desmond says back “You know what? Ignorance is bliss”. There is nothing more said about this in the episode but this shows that Desmond knows alot more about The Others then hes showing. Hopefully this will be able to provide more information for other theories about this…

Kelvin could have told him that there were hostiles. Maybe it was just Dharma jargon.
Kelvin does specifically mention the hostiles
Bakunin nailed it. Kelvin says “hostiles”. That’s how he knows the term.
I don’t hink there’s any mystery here, but have you noticed this: Desmond never comes in contact with the Others, does he? All except for Mikhail, and the two chicks from the Looking-Glass. Not even Juliet or Karl. It could be because “ignorance is bliss” or this fact could have potential.

Fresh, good thinking, but Bakunin did nail it. +1 for your thoughts in these trying times!
Reaz, I’ve wondered about that myself. I don’t know if it’s just because Des is a loner (he doesn’t seem to interact much with most of the Losties either) or if he’s avoiding the Others.
I think that’s very interesting Fresh. The fact that Des uses the actual term ‘hostiles’ is quite suggestive. Possibly he is just parroting what Radinzsky told Inman but possibly he has had contact….
Fresh, thanks for making mention of this. Bakunin nailed it, but Reaz brings up a nice point,, about Desmond, not interacting with “the others”, to any extent. I think it is curious to say the least. I am still of the mind, that Desmond is “the wild card”, and we will learn more about him in future. +1
intresting point more so that, when syied mentions the north shore desmond quickly metions the hotiles. This may tell us that desmond has known the locations of the hostiles for quite some time.
The two men were basically locked in a room together for 3 years. Isn’t it likely that they talked to each other?
And, something new: I just checked and all posters here are who they say they are. I like this new trend.
