So many of our favourite characters on Lost play amazing roles-
Kate-fugitivo
Jack-Dr. Saint
Sawyer-Conman
Locke-Hunter/Jesus’ son
Jin-Hit man
Sayid-Torturer
Charlie-Rock Star
Desmond-Scottish all-American Hero
Eko-Drug Lord/Mohammed
Ana Lucia-Maniac Cop
Ben-Master Manipulator/Kevin Spacy Stand in
Danielle-Sheena(and not the punk rocker, Jazprof!)
Naomi-Rocket Woman/ M.I.A. (Kala)
Claire-Unwed Mother/Lone Aussie
Then there is Hurley.
I guess he’s there to balance things out, or lighten things up? Well, in all fairness he did kill some Other with his van. I guess he saved the day, but I thought it was interesting that his Character doesn’t really line up with a classic role. Does he?

Richard-Charles Manson/Maroon 5 Mikhail-the Soviet Michael Myers Widmoore- Big Leboski/Brad Wesley (Road House, but who’s Dalton?!)
Mikhail as Mike Myers - that’s perfect! his overalls and the way he just keeps on coming back…

Dharmacide, the only thing I can come up with for Hurley (and I’m dating myself here) is Barney Fiffe from the Andy Griffith Show. I know Hurley is more than the comic relief character in Lost, but as Lost goes, he may fit that role. +1
Good call Annie79. This post quickly turned it to a game of comparing Lost characters to other pop culture references. (Sawyerisms?) Join in if you like, Everybody.
Horace-Abby Hoffman/John Lennon?
I think that Hurley is playing the quinessential ‘fat guy with the great personality’ role. He is very much a typecast character. He fits the role also of GenX. He likes all the comforts of home, headphones, radios, music, computers, and yet still remains at a low paying job and living with his mother. Thats how I see him, as a “self-esteem baby” that lacks self-motivation. This role might just be the new hero type? Hurley is a trememdous character.
tharde5, I really like your thoughts on Hurley. I completely agree with what you are saying, especially the “new hero type”. Maybe that is why it is hard to line him up with some other Character/Role. Thanks for the response.
Tharde you rock!
Don’t forget
Sun- gardener/pathological liar
Awesome.
I’m trying to do one for Christian Shephard. Any ideas?
Well, he is the drunk/depressed/regretful runaway father.
Dharmacide, How about Richard Kimball (The Fugitive) for Christian Shephard. muaahaahaa! Great job! +1
BTW, I can definitely see Horace Goodspeed as Abby Hoffman! And, Kevin Spacey is an awesome pick for Ben, and what about the character Kevin Spacey played in the Usual Suspects, Keyser Soze for Mikhail?
Yes! Good call on the Usual Suspects.
Hurley- emotional eater
Danielle - Sigourney Weaver (Ripley in Alien) Richard Alpert and the others- Peter Pan and the lost boys gone wrong
Dharma, What about “Grasshopper” from Kung Fu for Locke?? He sits just like him!! lol
Awesome.
Sayid- System of a Down meets A.C. Slater (saved by the bell)
