Gilligans Island” (the island) + “Donnie Darko” (the frustration) + Stephen King’s “The Langoliers” (the plane) = “LOST

Im only kidding around but if you have seen The Langoliers and Donnie Darko you will know about the time travel aspects plus Stephen Kings theme of community, sci-fi/horror and good vs evil. I think i heard somewhere that the producers actually love King books, can this be confirmed or did my mind trick me?

losti…Donnie Darko is great, but if you rent it dont get the directors cut.,just go with the original dvd. Less is more for this movie. Its one of my favourites.

Captain…it has been mentioned on this site once or twice about the Lost writers being King fans. And I think some of the themes you mention in Lost are similar to SK’s books.+1 to lift it up :)

CaptainFilth: I once thought as you did, i am a fan of the film The Langoliers, and did think there might be some some sort of shared theme, but as time has gone on i believe thes to themes have drifted.

The Langoliers did involve a different time line, well actually it was a redundant time line, where nothing grew, nothing had a taste, or a noise etc etc.

It is apparent from Lost that things can grow and people can taste and hear things.

However, one thing that is interesting is that when the flight members cross over into this time line, they have to be asleep, and that seems to be the indication from Richard when Juliette passes through.

    Interesting connection, +1

ACE, Good point about Juliet’s journey to the island. Jack mentioned to Kate that he “blacked out” which I thought was odd, and Kate said she was awake through the whole thing…

Captain, “Gilligan’s Island”? How about “Mysterious Island”? Much cooler stuff. ;)

Captain, as others have mentioned already the writers are fans of Stephen King. In fact, during Lost, the first couple of seasons I kept thinking about the Langoliers and The Stand. +1

    Good connections!

Captain, I like the comparisons and am sure there are many Stephen King references in Lost. The one I find particularly appealing is The Stand, and its references to the fight between good and evil, or light and dark! +1

whats the deal? can someone explain why iv got a -1 rating for this? i did mention its not to be taken too seriously and it is clearly not a theory… ACE man, come on, i know people can taste and things can grow. im not a complete idiot.

Captain, there seem to be a lot of trolls just negative bombing people’s posts lately so I wouldn’t take the ratings too seriously. You got 13 votes—so 7 of them were positive. Means you got a lot of drive-by negatives.

    Yeah, don’t sweat it Captain.

i tried to help ya out Captian, I didnt vote when I posted my comment the first time but +1 for ya now : )! People put negative votes on here all the time so we have gotten pretty use to it.

wtf: Thanks for the tip, Ive gotten directors cuts before for movies and didnt like them….poor directors….lol…..although I did like the directors version of the butterfly effect that was a good one, but has anyone seen the directors cut for daredevil……boring….anyway thanks again, I cant wait to watch it!

There is a troll “working” today; he is taking legitimate theories, like yours, and flagging them as “offensive” and sending them to the dump. It has happened to me 5 times today (I keep pulling it out of the dump, only to get re-dumped).

If this happens to you, all you have to do is “edit” you theory, and “save.” and it will return to the regular rotation.

    I hate these guys.
