The lines for an epic battle are drawn.

We know that Walt is special. We like Walt. Walt seems to be good person. At the very least, The Others have classed him as such. On the other side there is Aaron. Aaron is, if Claire’s psychic is to be believed, a danger to everybody. Are we seeing the foreshadows of a battle between light and dark?
Pilot, part one. Locke explains backgammon to Walt. He does not explain the pieces the way other people would, i.e. black and white. No, it is a battle of light against dark.
Nobody here will deny that Walt is special. We’ve seen it over and over. He makes things happen. He bi-locates. The chicks dig him. Locke likes him, which goes a long way in my opinion of confirming Walt, who is black, as the force of light in any imaginary battle to come.
Then there is Aaron. We have reason to believe that he is dangerous. Maybe even evil if he is not raised correctly. Ominous? Is Claire’s white baby the “dark” force?
Consider: Aaron is a baby. Nobody knows of the prediction of the psychic. Nobody would believe it if they did know. Wouldn’t the losties go out on a limb to protect a baby that was being threatened? Hell, they DID circle the wagons when they thought Aaron was threatened by The Others.
So there we are. Two camps. Good and Evil. Light and dark. A very special child representing good on one side. A very special child representing evil on the other. The lines for an epic battle are drawn.
Or maybe I need to watch some “Friends” DVDs for a while and stop watching LOST end-to-end all the live long day?

WillsDad: I think that maybe you have joined the ranks here of being lost In Lost. I wish someone would Help me. ,as i am a lostaholic :) I don’t think he meant that the child could be dangerous though. This is what Malkin told Claire ( the second time she went to see him) ” It is crucial that you ,yourself raise this child… Danger surrounds this baby. your nature, your spirit, your goodness, must be an influence in thedevelopment of this child.” I do agree that Walt is a special child though ,that is why the others took him.+1
I guess the drive-bys give a + sometimes ,not always -
Agreed, WillsDad & KSJ we all need to go into rehab. I just read that there is such a thing!!! Google it.
But back to your theory, I think that KSJ is right in the dialogue, which changes your theory around a bit. :-(
But, if you had the dialogue correct, it would have been a great theory!!!
WillsDad, I don’t see Walt as being evil or (dark) and it’s too soon for us to know exactly what role Aaron will take on. It appears that he will be good (light), in view of the comments made by Malkin, but that may be another red herring, that turns out the other way around. Too soon to tell! +1
I am inclined to agree with Kat’s perspective, though! Thought provoking!
Loved the statement you made about “the chicks dig Walt” lol
It’s intriguing, given all the warnings regarding Aaron and who he’s raised by. On the other hand, Walt may have had a hand in killing his mother so I’m not convinced he’s totally good. Would be kind of cool if instead of an epic battle they somehow had to join together.
Interesting post! But remember, the last few minutes of the final episode of Season 3 showed that they got off the island. And Jack and Kate did not look much older, either. I’m guessing one or two years, max …
I’ve heard of the ‘terrible twos’, but …
Could Aaron grow to be such an evil threat so quickly?
You hit it, Jazzie! I almost feel like we are being deliberately misled about Aaron and Walt. I agree with your thoughts. I don’t know if we will see an epic battle between the two of them, but no question we will see the epic battle being fought between light and dark, and faith vs science.
Kristoffer, We still don’t know how far off in the future, they will get off “the island”, but Aaron’s growth may not be as significant to the story line, as is his purpose for being brought there.
Interesting ideas, WD… it’s difficult to imagine what kind of impact Aaron will have on the direction of the show since it isn’t likely that he’ll get much older before it’s over (assuming time passes at about the same rate per episode, the audience might not even see his first birthday before the series is finished). I guess time will tell!
Walt’s not all that good. He almost certainly caused a bird to slam against a window before his mother started getting head pains that killed her. He also burned down his father’s raft, before he had thoughts that opening the hatch was bad and so wanted to get off the Island (why was he so worried!?). And his bi-location shenanigans went and got Shannon killed. He probably told Locke, lying in a skeleton pit, that he had to kill whoever was making a call to the outside at the end of S3.
I would agree with you in the sense that Aaron’s importance is not to be underestimated, though.
I know one person who will answer this but have u read “The Stand” Will?
Walt seems to have these powers but not be in control of them and Claire could also have powers that she is not aware of (when she got angry at her mum the accident happened) Its likely that Aaron will have the same powers and it will then be his choice in what way he uses them for good or bad if he is even aware of them. There is a battle between dark and light but i beleive Walt is both good and bad as we all are and I wouldn’t like to think that Aaron could be intrinsically evil.
CaptainFilth: Yes, I have. Long ago. I hadn’t made the connection, but since we know that the show runners like to “pay homage” to King, maybe we’re on to something.
Angelocomet: Perspective. Thanks. Walt has been responsible for some questionable things. But…I think the bird was an accident. The raft, well, no excuse. There is no evidence that Walt killed his mom. And Walt was present at Shannon’s murder, but did he cause it? It seems that he was whispering something at the time. Do we know what it was? Could he have been warning her? As for the Walt that Locke saw, this is the first Walt we’ve seen that we can actually understand when he speaks, which makes me suspicious. I’m withholding judgment on whether that was Walt or a smoke monster pretending to be Walt.
Kristofferdub: Good point. Is Jack feeling guilty because he chose to leave the epic struggle? Did he leave his friends behind? Was the man in the coffin another “deserter?” I’m not necessarily supporting these ideas, I’m just showing that there can be explanations for the things we’ve seen that are consistent with a single theory.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, somebody said something about having to be in court in an hour. I should probably read the file or something. I might have a theory on the case….
Maybe Walt needed Michael in the same way that Malkin told Claire that Aaron needed her. I dont think the two of them are as different as they are probably alike and likely to go either way(good or bad) depending on the environment they grow up in.They’re special.+1
why is this in the trollish section?
Lets just say, one should not ever question a top rated theory here. I made the mistake of not fawning over this theory:

And now, I believe, one or more of his disciples is teaching me a lesson. Do not question their master. If you see theories or comments by You_knowthename my advice is to treat it like holy writ.
Oh, I see you’ve had two more theories sent to this section. Unbelievable!

Hello, Everybody, thought I’d introduce myself. I USED to be WillsDad.
When I tried to log on this evening, I found my account canceled. Lovely.
So, now I am TheRealWillsDad.
Is it just me, or does this all seem a little … nuts?
