IF Smokie turned out to be somebody’s subconscious brought to life, whose subconscious would it be?

— WillsDad

Would You Like To Play A Game?

There is a 1950s era science fiction classic by the name of “Forbidden Planet.” It was groundbreaking in many ways, and some (not all) of the special effects stand up even to this day. It marked the debut performance of “Robby the Robot” and starred Leslie Neilson from before he was a joke.

The main conflict appears to be between humans and an invisible monster. In the end we find out that there is no actual monster; what they thought was a monster was merely the manifestation of one man’s subconscious as he sought to protect his daughter from some pretty unsavory characters (a ship full of Captain Kirks if you get my meaning.)

So here is the question: IF Smokie turned out to be somebody’s subconscious brought to life, whose subconscious would it be? Why do you think so?

    I’ll play!

Who’s the most repressed person on the island? Who’s frustration and irritation is so barely contained that it could explode in a cloud of black smoke? I say Jack.

Interesting. Is it significant that KATE is present for every appearance, (except one) of Smokie’s arrival?

LOL reminds me of the spongebob episode!-if you really love old and bad movies, check out planet nine from outer space and Godzilla vs. the giant lobster. The most enjoyable 4 hours you will ever have.

I Think Hurley though. I cant tell you why, exactly, its just a feeling that he’s more significant than we think, and he’s definately strong in his emotions and guilt, and might want to atone or whatever vicariously. It would be wicked if it was Rose and Bernard though!

For a while I thought Charlie-That the monster could have been the manifestation of his heroin habit. It appeared in The Pilot as he was having a hit in the bathroom. It seems to turn up around random people while Charlie is having issues of some sort…Mr Eko- when he made Charlie take him to the beechcraft….But it doesn’t hold up for all the smokie appearances. Good poll though.+1

(I only propose this answer for the purpose of the game - I do not think this is what the Black Smoke is!)

    Dear Players:

I don’t know how I could get 6 minuses for asking a question. I think some guy has a grudge, and too much time on his hands.

Would you guys mind, terribly, giving me some pluses, just to keep me alive? I don’t think I deserve to go down in flames for playing a little game, do I?

I just gave you one, WillsDad, just for the entertainment value of reading the comments you provoked!!

Vincent… lol I’ve just got to second that!

I kind of agree with AC on this, but my vote is for Richard Alpert .(If it is as you say something similar to “Forbidden Planet” an the “ID”.) I am going to give you a + 1 also.

As far as the voting goes, this is what I think is happening. I believe that before Annie voted telling you she was giving you a +1, that there were 13 votes, with a + 1 rating. If my guess is correct there were 7 other posters besides yourself until then. Assuming that they all gave you a plus ,that would mean that there were 6 votes giving you a minus, all but cancelling out one vote to leave you with +1. Then with annies vote that gave you 14 votes. 8 + 6 - = 14 votes and a + 2 I don’t think it takes a magician to figure out that there are some that are just S trolling by to vote. If everyone that posts would state their vote, it would show by simple math who the minus voters are! I wish there would be some way to make it be the only way you could vote is if you Post and state how you are voting.

    I know that you cannot vote more than once per user as I have tested that,therefore there must be a lot of S trollers. : ‘ - {

WillsDad & katesawjack, I agree the silent minusers are an nuisance. But, unfortunately one we have to live with.

The way the system is set up, purposely I might add, is for members to be able to vote without posting if they choose to. On the bright side, in case you didn’t know, you can vote for your own theory.

  14. katesawjack Nov 11, 2007 11:22 a.m. Comment: 14

Annie79: I do know that you can vote for yourself too,but thanks just the same.On another note;( I found just a a little bit of trivia for you.)

Regarding the theory about six degrees of separation, although it does not mean a thing, you and I joined this site on the same date I posted about this somewhere else but I doubt you saw it?

The reason though that I did ,is I believe that Lost inhabitants share in the fact that many of them are connected to one another in some way or another, whether they know it or not? Real life seems to be that way as well. On the Season 2 DVD bonus features it has a section regarding Character connections, that is pretty interesting. Anyway that is why I mentioned it….

Whoa, jacksawkate, that is interesting!!! The very same day. There are some very strange connections out here in the real world as well as Lost.

I once dated a guy for quite awhile in high school, pretty serious, but it ended. Then several years later I got really friendly with two of my co-workers, who are my best friends to this day, and believe it or not both of them knew him and one of them also dated him for awhile!!!

So I raise a glass to our connection, thanks for letting me know about it!

he he : katesawjack ; ^ g, but you can call me KSJ if you like. This link re:11:46 am has really got a lot of interesting things pertaining to the character asociations. I printed the jpg. image out so I could study it a bit. I probably won’t know anymore than I do now however , which isn’t much at all?

  19. katesawjack Nov 11, 2007 12:21 p.m. Comment: 19

I’m back, just a quick comment about coincidence’s. If you saw the movie with Mel Gibson”Signs” it covers that subject very well. The gist of it is that there are no coincidence’s, and I believe that to be true. It is what also what I think that the Losties are learning everyday.

  20. Annie79 Nov 11, 2007 12:37 p.m. Comment: 20

KSJ, absolutely agree there are no coincidences in life or on Lost. I haven’t see Signs, but will try to get the DVD, I’m assuming it’s not new.

I know it’s silly, but I’ve always been intrigued by the six degree’s of Kevin Bacon.

  21. WillsDad Nov 11, 2007 12:46 p.m. Comment: 21

Katrinicity: That is interesting: not one person’s subconscious, but 2 people’s conflict? Nice.

  22. Annie79 Nov 11, 2007 12:58 p.m. Comment: 22

    Saw it kat, but thanks!

  23. jazprof Nov 11, 2007 4:06 p.m. Comment: 23

heh—nothing to add on the question; I think kat solved it. Forbidden Planet is an awesome movie by the way.

Annie—I had a similar experience. Dated a guy for a little while. Several years later talking to a female roommate—yup she dated him. And then many years later turns out a current friend of mine had too. Coincidence? Synchrofreakinicity? Nah!…..a guy who dates lots, and lots, and lots of women :-D

  24. Annie79 Nov 11, 2007 5:32 p.m. Comment: 24

jaz, really, you too? Mine didn’t really date alot so I’m going with coincidence on my part. That and Rhode Island is a really small state…

  25. John_Barleycorn Nov 11, 2007 7:52 p.m. Comment: 25

Katesawjack, exellent mathematics if everyone said how they are going to vote (or if they aren’t voting) then each user could at least prove they are not being two-faced. I vow that I shall adopt this policy henceforth!

and Will I shall +1 you to repaired the damage done by the invisible men!

  26. WillsDad Nov 11, 2007 8:28 p.m. Comment: 26

jazprof: have you considered the possibility that the guy was just kind of a male slut?

    John_Barleycorn: thanks.

There you go, WillsDad! I gave it a +1!

I don’t know why anybody would move this off the main page. It’s harmless and fun! I just read about it in another thread, so came over to show my support!

    Let them eat cake!

  28. WillsDad Nov 13, 2007 8:42 p.m. Comment: 28

Thanks, Dab. Being the target of trolls moving ALL my stuff of the main page has pissed me off a little. Thank goodness the high quality people are both supportive, and know where to find me.

One more thing WillsDad I gave you a + 1.Another is I also think that my 10:31am post could be another reason that it might have been moved.

katesawjack, What do you mean you might be the reason my post was moved? Are you saying what I think youre saying? If so thanks a fkin lot. No more Mr. Nice Guy!

  32. wtfsignmeup Nov 14, 2007 2:05 a.m. Comment: 32

WillsDad…katesawjack meant that every time a comment is made on a returned to page post -back it goes to wherever it was flagged to go.

She made a comment and so back to offensive it goes. But after your last comment on that page,it belongs there..

  33. wtfsignmeup Nov 14, 2007 2:10 a.m. Comment: 33

OK…Now we have two WillsDads….how the hell does that work.

  36. WillsDad Nov 14, 2007 9:23 a.m. Comment: 36

Another thing: the second, fake, ersatz, copy of WillsDad has poor spelling and punctuation skills. I don’t think he is smart enough to pull this off.
