First up, this is an edited version of a different theory i posted on tribe.net which has been re written based on comments made by the producers of lost… the gods they are :}
Ok so Locke and Boone make their way to the cockpit of the drug smuggling plane, the visit which ends in the TIMELY end of Boone, the step sister loving, crazy t-shirt wearing son of a gun. Now after seeing Desmond send Charlie to his death, i am woundering, Locke, did you do the same to Boone? Did you know Boone was going to die before “realising” it was an island sacrifice? did you plan this Locke!? did you kill boone!!
Events seem to persuade my thinking toward the idea that Locke did kill Boone in the same sense that Desmond did killed Charlie. Lockes legs mysteriously going limp preventing him from climbing up to the plane, almost a con to get Boone up there is one, the way he easily gives in when asking Boone to return to camp is another. Its Lockes goal to get Boone thinking that all these are Boones ideas and not the grand scheme of a crazy ex cripple… or “pre cripple”… but thats another theory… This is nothing major within the grand scheme of time travel/warp/loop theroies that are flooding every lost website before season 4 comes to the party. But it bugs me that all of Lockes apperentices seem to serve a significant role and usually have a rough time of it, eg - kiddnapping, murder or death. If i can say one more thing its this, if i were on the island. I would be staying the hell away from Locke, no matter how kick ass of a chracter he is! ;}

The fact that you insist on spelling John Locke’s name wrong, makes your theory null. -1
do you feel better about yourself now blizzardman? it was just so necessary of you to even comment. you’ve made such a contribution. well done.
Yes, and thanks. Looking forward to next time —
Captainfilth bro, John Locke is the man! However, loath as I am, I see your point. Hes screwed over Boone, he was pretty nasty to Charlie and he manipulated sawyer because of his greed, possible delusions of grandeur and unagknowledged hatred.
And yet, in contrast, his journey is always filled with self-descovery, power and, really really wierdly, hope. Every time I get pissed off with him, I just watch the episode where him and Eko kinda socialise over the dharma video and God. Shivers everytime, because its just such a cool scene and rings with positive themes. So, captainfilth, I disagree that boone was killed on purpose-Locke is such a complex character, part ying and equal part yang, that such an objective statement is probably unlikely. However i do rather like your ideas and style.
+1 for distracting me from revising and getting me thinking at the same time!
I don’t think Locke knowingly lead Boone to his death. I believe he willingly disregarded the bad omen’ in his dream for his own purposes. That’s not the same as knowingly tricking him, but it hardly makes Locke a saint.
To make it clear: Locke had a vision of the plane crashing, of his mother and of a bloodied Boone… He believed the Island was delivering ‘further instructions’ on how he was to open the hatch. His entire thinking centred around that. He focused on the plane crash he saw, and ignored the bloodied Boone. Thus they journeyed and found the plane, proving Locke half-right, but then he ignore the other half of his vision that completely showed him the bloody consequences.
Locke later calls this a sacrifice the Island demanded. He absolves himself of any guilt, once again, in favour of a greater purpose.
I’ve believe for quite some time that Locke faked the return of his paralysis in order to send Boone up into the plane, knowing it was certain doom. That said, from Locke’s perspective, Boone was like a pawn that needed to be sacrificed. I don’t think it makes him evil for allowing Boone to die. Tough decisions are a mandate in this epic battle, as Ben(not the bad guy) has demonstrated.
Captain, welcome to the site. I*m going to have to go with Angelo on this one. I dont believe Locke knowingly led Boone to his death either. Yes, he was being selfish and serving his own needs, but that doesnt make him a murderer.
Yeah, It’s Locke and Boone. Not Lock and Boon.
Errr… i cant believe i did that… but anyway! thanks to all the people who could bring themselves to see past that mistake and post a constructive comment!
Yeah, your spelling sucks.
I like the Locke/Boone parallel to Desmond/Charlie. For me really in both cases I don’t think Locke or Desmond really wanted their partners to die. Desmond might have known before time what was in his vision, but he did try to stop it like he tried to stop every other prediction. I wonder, did he know for sure this time that his efforts to thwart it would really fail? Perhaps (I think for me) the parallel lies with the fact that reliance on their gifts led to the tragedies that Locke and Desmond had to face.
Hey and… don’t listen to the naysayers. Spelling isn’t everything. It takes a lot to post something you know is going to be picked apart and scrutinized… and perhaps even not so nicely. Good job. Thanks for sticking your neck out and joining in on the fun.
Hmm…. sounds like someone woke up on the dead side of bed today. Need some coffee deadsawyer?
Captain, I totally agree with Agent’s take on your theory! I don’t feel that in either case that Locke or Desmond intended for Boone or Charlie to die intentionally. Nice thoughts! +1
I do think, Locke’s motivations appear to be more self inclined. He is so into his communion with “the island”, that he’d be the last guy I’d be hanging around!
I also agree with Agent’s thoughts on posting theories. It takes a lot of courage to place ones self out there, and you did just fine!
LOL kat! You know, now that you mention it, lots of Locke’s assistants get injured, captured, or killed. Boone, Kate, and Michael are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Oh yeah, and wander into the other’s encampment—Sayid & Kate captured, Locke off blowing up the sub. And maybe even taking Sawyer to Cooper is another version? On his own journey, but I wouldn’t want to be riding shotgun. There is something going on there, but I’m not sure whether it’s him, the island, or both that winds up creating such a danger zone around him.
But generally I agreee with Agent both about Locke & Des and about posting.
Yeah, I’m with Agent.
John’s just a piss-poor captain.
I am continually amazed at how some theorists can watch a scene which has no ambiguity, and then, out of thin air, add secret back stories, secret subtext, secret desires, secret motivations, and, VIOLA! The scene bears no resemblance to what the writers wrote, or to what we all saw.
I can’t remember who said it, but it is applicable: Who you gonna believe? Me or your own eyes?
