I was just watching the excellent catch 22 episode and during Desmonds first flash i think i might have noticed something. you know the one where we see Charlie get impaled. May he Rest in peace sob!
Anyway after seeing this flash of Charlie been impaled and dying you see another flash of two people holding the tarpaulin and one of them is clearly Charlie. So my theory is that Desmond is receiving confused images perhaps even good/bad flashes almost like competing thoughts are battling to show him which direction to take. Please help im confused!!!

jamtay, whoa, I’m going to have to re-watch that one! Will be back later to comment….
jamtay: Right you are. That’s a tough one, really. Does that mean his second flash —the “tarpaulin” one— was “sent” assuming Charlie was going to be saved?
I always suspected the “visions” —be them flashbacks, dreams, or whatever— are somehow “controlled” or “sent” to their receivers for them to react in a certain way. I’m guessing now Desmond was being “directed” to make Charlie disconnect the Looking Glass… but first he needed to convince Charlie about his “visions” being true. Once the message sunk in Charlie’s mind, he would be ready to accept Desmond’s word about his needing to die in order to save Claire.
Did I make myself clear? I feel like my English is loosing coherence…
Nice thoughts Occam I guess that what I am leaning towards at the moment is that Desmond is acting as a receiver of a variety of images, messages, and suggestions. I think that some of these our bad and some of these are good. Im pretty sure that at least some of these flashes are from Jacob and that they are a cry for help similar to what Locke has been hearing.
But… there’s always a but… ;-)
If Jacob can send Desmond “visions”, why not to other “sensitive” Losties? Locke himself, for instance. But Locke had real trouble to get Jacob’s message… would it mean you have to be able to believe before you can get the message? But then, why should Desmond believe his “visions” are true?
Ok, I’m officially rambling.
I like that idea Occam :o) perhaps faith does play a part. Desmond showed faith by pressing the button for years but then he lost faith and ran away. However he redeemed himself by showing faith and using the emergency overide key and then hey presto the visions start. Locke on the other hand was given a gift (to be able to walk again) and because of that he had faith in the island however he brieftly lost his faith when he was tested but Eco helped him get his faith back and now Locke is starting to understand the islands powers by hearing Jacob and seeing what Jacob wants. The island was testing them before revealing its secrets?
Great catch, Jamtay! I noticed this as well, but didn’t know what to make of it. Your shared thoughts with Occam, sheds light. Nice +1
The only other thought which I have, is that when it comes to the future, there are a variety of outcomes, dependant upon the choices one makes.
Thanks Dab ;o) I like that idea. Think it could apply to the flashforward that it is one of many possible futures I guess it ties in eith my other post about Desmond controlling future events.
Yes it does, Jam! I was a bit behind reading theories, and am now caught up. I responded to that theory as well. You’ve got it right on both counts!
Btw, Where is that display pic, I so liked?? It was the one with writing on your face! Adorable!
