“Loop, dude. Loop”
— Fresh
In the episode Lockdown in series two Jack is asking Hurley about where Ana Lucia, Sayid and Charlie are. Hurley says he doesn’t know and adds “Maybe if I were in the loop, I could be more helpfull”.
Jack then replys by saying “There is no loop, Hurley”. Then Claire comes up to Jack with Aaron who was feeling hot and sick. As Jack walks away to take a look at Aaron, Hurley says “Loop, dude. Loop”. Could this be the writers giving us a clue that there is a time loop happening with the characters?

Its possible. I think Hurley is probably also one of the more gullible (maybe I should say trusting) of the Losties. Maybe Hurley is supposed to represent us fans who are always looking for secrets, conspiracies, and whatnot and the writers are poking fun at us. Or maybe it Hurley was simply referring to how the ‘inner circle’ of the survivors tend to keep their discoveries from the rest.
Interesting idea, all the same!
I’m pretty sure Hurley was referring to that fact that only a small group of the survivors were allowed to know what was going on (Jack, Locke, Sayid, etc.), and the rest were kept in the dark. Hurley (and other Losties) didn’t like this fact. I don’t think there was any hidden meaning to this comment. He was just ticked that Jack and the few other people kept the rest of the Losties “out of the loop”
In the loop: Part of a group that is kept up-to-date with information about something
I know there is that meaning to it vegarover but I think the writers used those terms on purpose because they knew there had been theories of time loops and so on. And as dannyBOONE says Hurley is like us coming up with theories and Jack is like someone dismissing them all.
Good theory, and though I am not sure i agree with the time loop, I did notice some cool stuff in that episode that supports a “loop” theme.
1-The timer in the swan keeps starting over 2-Jack keeps getting brought back to the beach everytime he tries to leave to go to the hatch. 3-In Locke’s flashback he finds himself again being used by Anthony Cooper 4-Sayid, Anna and Charlie go out to find the balloon in an effort to see if Henry is lying, and they return to the original verdict that he is lying.
Also, the whole scene with Locke on the excer-bike and the record playing, that has alot of “loop” images to me. And finally, Locke being crippled by the blast door was kind of like history repeating itself for him. Just some observations.
To quote Sir Artur Conan Doyle, “I never guess. It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.”
It seems like we’re starting to see what we want to see.
No. This is two characters having a conversation about one of them feeling left out, and using a common colloquialism.
Basically, I agree with Jukin, just not as perspicaciously.
amen Jukin’
Fresh, I’m going with Lockeko, WillsDad and Jukin on this one. Possibly a red herring, but most likely just a conversation that we’re reading too much into.
Yes, I too agree with Annie, Locko, Jukin, and Dharmacide!
kinda not-so-fresh -1
Gee, reading too much into the Losties conversations. That’s new.
