hmm

I’m not a subscriber to bi-location-related theories, but since they don’t seem to ever go away on this site, I was researching bi-location and some things related to Astral Projection caught my eye.

Astral Projection is loosely defined in wikipedia as the following phenomenon: “When a person projects, they actually “phase” into another area of consciousness and the locales it contains, likened to tuning a radio to another station. Phasing explicitly rejects a complete mind-brain connection, rather it assumes that our concepts of space do not necessarily apply to astral travel.” So I began thinking perhaps, somehow, everyone has been brought to the same plane. An interactive collective subconscious so to speak. Helps to explain a lot of the deceased or nonexistent supporting characters like Yemi, Dave, etc. Pretty ridiculous, but then again, so is Lost, and an environment like that really allows for a lot of creative lee-way. People, numbers, things…..every element of everyone’s life becomes shared. Elements from their past become intertwined by default. Sawyer sees a horse from Kate’s past. Desmond enters numbers from Hurley’s life. The possibilities are endless, and while I know there’s a lot more going on and we’ll get a much simpler explanation on the show, there’s more to it worth thinking about.

In astral projection the traveller finds him- or herself in an apparently real domain, which has no parallel to any physical setting. This is termed by New Agers and occultists among others as the astral plane or “the astral”. Environments here may range from populated to unpopulated, artificial to natural to completely abstract environments and from beautific to horrific. Here, normal physical laws often do not apply. The quality of detail ranges from crude to vivid and fascinating. Projectors may gain access to visions of the past or future of Earth, and to the Akashic records. It has been said that space and time do not exist on the astral plane in the same way they do on earth, or that they can be transcended. The Akashic Records are metaphorically described as a library and are also likened to a universal computer or the ‘Mind of God’. The records are supposed to be constantly updated. The concept originated in the Theosophical movements of the 19th Century, and remains prevalent in New Age discourse.”

Could the pressing of the button be related to updating the universal computer and library of mankind’s knowledge? Could Desmond be intermittingly leaping back to this plane?

Here’s what I turned up regarding Theosophy.

Some, such as those who believe in Theosophy, say that the higher astral planes are reached through the progressive projection of subtler energy bodies from previous projected bodies, much like a Russian doll”. Hmmmm, Russian Dolls you say? Paulo anyone?

Theosophy is defined as ‘knowledge of things divine’, or ‘god-wisdom’ “The name theosophy was applied specifically to Jacob Boehme”. Ok, I know there are 3 million Jacob’s, but it was still worth looking into, and I’m glad I did. “In Böhme’s cosmology, it was necessary for humanity to depart from God, and for all original unities to undergo differentiation, desire, and conflict — as in the rebellion of Satan, the separation of Eve from Adam, and their acquisition of the knowledge of good and evil — in order for creation to evolve to a new state of redeemed harmony that would be more perfect than the original state of innocence, allowing God to achieve a new self-awareness by interacting with a creation that was both part of, and distinct from, Himself.” This made me think of Ben’s quote that ‘not even God can see this place’. Is the island Jacob Bohme’s dream come true, God separated from his creation, forced to achieve a new self-awareness?

Lots of good stuff in there! +1

Unfortunately, I’m leaving work, so I don’t have time to truly digest everything you’ve laid out. But this is certainly one I’m going to look further into. Good job!

oooh, very interesting… especially, in my estimation, this bit:

in order for creation to evolve to a new state of redeemed harmony that would be more perfect than the original state of innocence”

sounds a lot like the dharma inititative’s catch-cry of ‘a better world’ to me. you might just be onto something.

Risebysin, I love your theory! I know that psychic phenomenon theories are not that popular, however, they play an equally important role, in the story. +1

Rise very interesting indeed. In particular the stuff about the Akashic records. I would like to do more research into that myself.

I do wonder if perhaps its a stretch to say the island is the astral plane. I always thought in astral projection the body was unable to interact with the environment it travels to. Which would leave us all sorts of problems as we clearly see the Losties touch each other and interact with their surroundings.

But its cool stuff all the same +1
