Tantalizing hint, or meaningless coincidence?

— WillsDad

Less a theory than a question: are we going to see that Cindy has some kind of back story with the Asian scientist from the orientation videos?

I have somewhat lengthy theory found here: http://lost-theories.com/theories/2007/sep/30/nexus-timelines/#comments

In brief, the theory states that the people on the training videos, Marvin Candle, Mark Wickmund and Edgar Halowax are three versions of the same man from three different timelines or universes.

We have all noted by now the fact that the three last names are all related to candles.

Cindy the stewardess’s last name is Chandler. A chandler is a maker of candles.

So, what do you guys think? Tantalizing hint, or meaningless coincidence?

I have no idea which it might be, but it’s an interesting thought either way, worthy of speculation.

it would be pretty careless writing if there wasn’t a link between chandler and candle/wax/wick. good spot!

It think its a good spot but more likely its just another Red Herring. It could as easily be argued that Chandler’s Syndrome (Which is a problem with the Iris) ties into the close ups of the eyes.

+1 for the spot though and you never know there might just be something there.

Good spot WillsDad. It is intriguing that they chose to give Cindy a name which links her to Candle/Wickmund/Halowax. Might just be another easter egg I suppose….

Nice catch, WillsDad. I say tantalizing clue and +1

interesting - all along i have thought marvin was just lieing in the orientation videos but this could actually be a good twist - he wasn’t lieing at all, he was, for all intense purposes 3 different people

    good idea Dr Cynical!!! (kidding)

Guy, I thought I was going to find that, after all, the girl with the flowers welcoming young Ben was Cindy…

…and why not? ;-) Nice one, WillsDad.

Nice find of the link between Cindy and Candle. I would be surprised if there isn’t some kind of tie in there. I disagree though about there being three versions of Candle - seems to convoluted. Why would all three of them have the same mannerisms and quirks not to mention all missing the same arm if they ere living separate lives in different times? Their name would change but everything else is the same? But as I said I like the connection between Cindy and Candle. Nice find!!

    Thanks everybody.

Jukin: one of the mysteries, is that apparently only the first guy, the one from the Swan orientation film is missing an arm. He seems to have two fully functioning arms in the other clips. The interesting thing is that he has a prosthesis in the 70s era film in the Swan. But he has a fully functioning arm in the VHS 80s orientation tape found in the Pearl.

I’d appreciate it if somebody else would chime in. Did I get this part wrong?

WillsDad : I agree with the thing about The three names all having to do wih candles possibly But the thing with Cindy I’m not to sure about? The reason is this I read this on Lostpedia.com “Cindy was supposed to be the crew member whose body Shannon cried over in the pilot. This was scrapped when the writers needed a crew member to tell the tailies they were flying off course before the crash. They chose to allow Cindy to be the crew member.” I still think that she could be at some point important to the story still though. After all Jack was supposed to get killed by the monster in the Pilot. I’m just saying that they, (the writers) have the power of the pen. I do believe them when they say that when they began Lost they had a beginning & an end. But they can manipulate the middle to whatever they want it to be.

like you say though katesawjack, if Jack was meant to be killed off in the pilot and went on to become one of the main characters, surely they could develop Cindy into a more important role?

I got to say, 14 votes with a total of “0” I’m doing better than I thought I would when I tossed this red meat to the intellectual wolves.

How can you get negative votes on asking a question?

I think you’re nuts, of course, but I’ll plus one you just to take the edge away from the trolls.

And how does Chandler Bing fit in to all this? Is that why Matthew Perry is a scheduled guest star for season 4?

    What? No. No. What? No.
