What if the island is actually ”in motion”.
What if the island is actually ”in motion”. Its physical location is capable of changing. What if the island were completely manmade, a biosphere if you will, and the surrounding environment were dictated by its operators.
This might be an explanation for the following mysteries.
Locke knows before it about to rain, Almost as if its ‘time’.
Desmond is unable to leave the island and says ‘This is all there is”
A small Beechcraft landing on the island after departing from Nigeria, Africa which would not be possible if the island were located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. That Beechcraft doesn’t have that type of range.
Naomi reports that they were given coordinated “in the middle of the bloody ocean”
It’s the middle of the day when they cash land 2:24pm approx two hours before they actually take off from the Sydney Airport.
If this biosphere were capable of moving it could be possible to land in the middle of the day which is exactly what we saw.
“I think we’ve found it!” the report to Penny, from the two men at monitoring station. Are they looking because it never stays in the same spot.
Ben ‘God can t see this island, anymore than anyone else can.
The inability of anyone to find the island.
Juliette must be sedated before entering the biosphere.
Coordinates are cirtical to find the island. otherwise we wouldnt have been told that without the coordinates a sub would never find it. Really it is always in the same place would they just write down the coordinates and not necessarily need to be given to the captain.Odd is nt it?
325degree heading given to Michael is the only way out. Possibly an opening in the biosphere and the only entrance or exit. And even this requires exact measures
Those that have come by air seem to crash land only. Why? Because an incredible amount of gravitational force is needed to penetrate the biospheres’ outer shell. This might also be the explaination for the improbable soft landing of the plummeting Oceanic jet, flight 815.
Naomis helocopter crashes and she must jumps and she is oddly injured “a collapsed lung’ just from a parachute landing.
Why would the island need such strong electromagnetic properties? Maybe these incredible amounts of energy are needed to keep the biosphere operating and moving. What about the clocks and the numbers. I wonder if the pushing of the buttons reset the on island clocks to read the atomic clocks of the outside world. We see on the printouts the time and Accepted only.
Along these lines could the incident be that the electromagnetic force created was simply too big to control and temporarily created an unsafe situation for the outside world. If we knewwhen exactly the incident occurred maybe it caused a real world incident. What if the when Des activated the failsafe it decreased the potential of the biosphere. In other words The biosphere were capable of arming itself and defending itself from outside forces and the buttons simply released the excess every 108 minutes. I also would throw the idea that the numbers might be factor into the equations of the secret locations of the movements of the biosphere/island. Maybe the number have to do with how fast the island is moving, how often it resets, or can be contacted. Maybe days or hours or time for outside involvements/activities. A code of identity of the island. Why else would that crazy ex-army man who knows the numbers say they bad or unlucky. Maybe he knew too much and was eliminated because he really knew what they meant.
Now I know this would require a leap of faith to even fathom this idea that they are captive in a mobile biosphere, but it certainly might just solve some of the seemingly unanswerable mysteries we’ve witnessed in these 3 wonderful seasons.
Some questions: What about the second Island where the others work? How did all the original Dharma people get there? Were they sedated too? Does Dharma not know where the Island is now? How does Dharma do food drops?
Dcide: Great questions, as for the second island my concept is that this moving biosphere is inclusive of both island and the surroundings. The mathematical measurements listed on the blast door map include enough power (Tesla’s) to blow up the entire planet. Why then wouldnt it be possible to use these incredible forces to move a small biosphere. The original Dharma people were more than likely brought before the system was powered up and no shell was active I also believe that the food drops were coordinated to ‘fall through a designated opening maybe even part of the 108 minutes or lockdown action that crushed Locke;’s leg in the blast door. I also suspect that Dharma does know where the island is or should be but Ben is active in keeping only those that need to know in the loop.
Smells like carrots. :P
Thardie, Forgive me, but I thought the “snowglobe” scenario had been debunked by the writers. Perhaps, changing the title might be more enticing for readers. Just a suggestion.
I think that you have made some worthy notes here, which sound entirely plausible, to me, and may very well prove to be correct! Good read and well written. +1
tharde, I’ve been 2 hrs. behind dabs all night and she’s taking the words right out of my mouth on every theory!! Or we’re channeling each other, I don’t know which. But it’s getting eerie.
Anyway, ditto what dabs said and +1. :-)
Its like a giant episode of the “Truman Show”…… only kidding. Interesting., but too much..
I think I prefer the idea that the Island is ‘lost’ to the world in some other sense, rather than cocooned.
I’m not sure how submarine access works in this respect, either.
I remember I did play with this idea at the end of season 2 - where it seemed to make more sense. But then what made the snowglobe? How does it function? Once I thought along these lines it became harder for me to ‘scientifically’ justify what would be, as cilcost above said, pretty much a rip-off of The Truman Show.
I’m open for ideas, but this one I just can’t embrace. Not saying it’s wrong. Just that it doesn’t fit with me.
Lol Thardie this one’s not for me either. I like it very much as an idea but I think its perhaps a bit too far fetched to work on the show.
Boy am I going to kick myself if you’re right!
+1 for the entertainment brutha :-)
Well the ayes have it. After reflecting about this idea and listening to the responses……I hear what your all saying. The concept that I was going for is simply this….. The island is hidden and navigation is skewed whenever an attempt is made to find this island. These facts are known and accepted. Why then logically speaking is following a simple heading so complicated? It simply isnt logical. Imagine following a set of coordinates and sudeenly your instruments are completely down why would it be impossible to continue 20 miles or so in the same direction. It just doesnt make sense.
I think that the debunked idea was that the place wasnt actually real. I am proposing the concept that the island is very much a real place but the island is contained in a biosphere. In other word its a controlled environment. and its capable of movements. Yes it seems farfetched but with the incredible energy the island is capable of its not completely out of the realm of possbilities.
I like where your head’s at.
