LOST-Theories.com

I’m new to this site so pardon me if this has been covered before, or worse still, it’s completely insane.

What’s worse than being buried alive? Being buried alive… AND being immortal. You’d suffocate, regenerate, suffocate, regenerate, for ever and ever. Let’s hope that’s not happening to Nikki and Paulo. But what if their story was kind of a metaphor for Jacob. Maybe he is being held captive and experimented on and he cannot even hope for death.

Let’s say Jacob is Jacob Hanso, son of Magnus Hanso and first child born on the island. As such he has become immortal. In fact, just being around him will cure your cancer, injuries, etc. Jacob had a son, Alvar Hanso who, because of his diluted bloodline is not immortal. Young Alvar become obsessed with discovering the secret of the island and so created the Hanso Foundation and the DHARMA initiative to study these phenomena.

Now the DHARMA group were idealistic scientists (nerdy hippies) and benign in their treatment of Jacob. They never subjected him to cruel experiments. They simply did things like using his DNA or blood to manipulate animals (polar bears) or trying to make Jacob sire children.

But perhaps there was a group of more hardcore scientists who believed that to truly understand Jacob and the island, you needed to study him more aggressively. This is the group called the hostiles. They were more like a cult than a group of scientists (faith V science). With Ben’s help they purged the island and took control of the experiment. What they want to do is breed immortal children on the island and thus become very powerful, but they haven’t figured out how. In order to achieve this, Ben and Richard, etc, have had to lure specialists to the island under false pretenses. And they have also tricked them into believing that Jacob is a “great man” when in fact he is in fact a prisoner.

However, while Jacob is being held physically, perhaps he has very strong psychological powers (ESP, telekinesis). Perhaps the monster is nothing more than volcanic ash that Jacob moves with his mind. When some new person or group arrives on the island, Jacob sends out his “monster” to figure out which people might help him get free and which will not. (by reading their thoughts and memories) If he identifies someone who might be likely to lead the people off the island (eg, the pilot) he kills them. But if the monster meets someone who might aid in an escape (Locke) then he encourages/manipulates them.

The Others know this. Which is why when the plane crashed, Ben knew he had to move quickly to gather information about the Losties and figure out which ones might be useful to Jacob and which ones might be useful to the Others. So Basically, the losties are being manipulated into confronting the Others and breaking Jacob out of his prison.

OK, that’s probably insane, but I had fun writing it.

There’s a really good twelve step program you should check out called Lostaholics Anonymous. It’s designed for people like you and I who are suffering from withdrawal symptoms during LOST’s hiatus.

Symptoms may include (but aren’t limited to) posting crazy theories, salivating at the mere mention of LOST, and an almost imperceptible tick while viewing past episodes.

Shock therapy has been found to be effective, but only if done by a professional (don’t stick your finger in a light socket).

    Namaste and good luck. ;)

    HOLA and welcome!!!

I really like your take on this and feel that it could tie into those that are on Jacob’s list.

Babaramdass this is brilliant. I so want it to be true because its a great back story for Jacob.

    @ Sham lol!

    +1 and a hell yeah!

I think it’s almost certain that Jacob is a captive (either imprisoned BY Ben, or Ben is merely continuing the imprisonment). His “Help me” makes me believe as much.

I think the ash around the hut is what keeps Jacob in place (and so I disagree that the ask ‘rises up’ to be controlled so as to form the Black Smoke).

Quite like the idea of Jacob being the first born on the Island and, as a flip-side, Jacob potentially being the last surviving person to be born on the Island.

Whoa—I really really like your idea babaramdass (and your name is great)—Been wondering who the father of the children is—maybe it’s Jacob’s DNA then that’s killing the pregnant women? It’s when women conceive on the island that they die. I wonder if the women like Sabine might have been impregnated through technology (IVF), while Sun (and possibly Kate) are pregnant both naturally and supernaturally (somehow Jacob providing some of the genetic material?), both a maculate and immaculate conception?

Sham, lol. Well these things being relative, baba, I think you’ve found the right sanita…., ahem, I mean the right site for posting. Now you’ll have to excuse me I just spotted an old friend outside and I’ve been holding onto his slipper for him so got to run…

Prior to being on the island, Jin had a low sperm count. I’m of the mind that it has something to do with the fact that time runs differently on the island.

Maybe a day two for our Losties is like 3 or 4 days to us. How long have they been there now? 100 days or so? Time seems to pass normally to them, but in the outside world it runs at a different pace.

So when we see Jim Morrison… I mean Jack, he is off the island with a Razor phone circa 2007.

Am I making sense? Do I need help? Probably.

    shamatorium, we all need help!

babaramdass, welcome to our crazy site and congrats on your first theory! I loved reading it and agree with most of it. I definitely think Jacob is being held captive by Ben. But as far as the experiments, who did them and when did they start, I’m still not so sure about that part.

Angelo, I loved your comment about Jacob being the first and last born on the island too.

    Great comments all!

Welcome to the site barb! What I like about the folks here is that they seriously consider a wide variety of ideas, and appreciate novel approaches. Keep it up!

I enjoyed your theory, but personally I have a hard time buying anything mystical or conspiratorial as answers to our questions. I believe the LOST team is basing everything on believable science, human nature, and circumstance, and then weaving the varied individual stories around it. Part of my reasons for thinking this way are that, when we finally do get answers to questions, I pray that we don’t feel betrayed with a fanciful or unbelievable scenario. I hope that in the end we are left with an “AHA” moment and left hanging with intriguing “what if” questions.

In my view, if there is some sort of apparent immortality for Jacob or anyone else, then I believe it is a “perceived” immortality rather than an actual one. I love your image of Nikki and Paulo! That one will stick with me for a while…

    I like it!

I haven’t got much to contribute, just a thought about the

often mentioned “time runs differently on the island”.

Wouldn’t that mean that normaly time is an absolute thing? Because I don’t think so. For example, time runs very slowly when I’m alone and bored in my appartment, whereas it runs very fast on an good party or on some funny drugs!
