Do you think it would make sense to use Hanso as a major plot device on the show?

It seems like alot of theories around here are based on information taken from the LE, and I have seen every episode of the actual TV series in a short period of time recently, and I don’t remember any mention of Hanso at all.
The reason I bring this up is because I was wondering if you folks out there really think the writers of this show would influence the direction of the show based on a game that most fans of the show know nothing about? Do you think it would make sense to use Hanso as a major plot device on the show?
If not, then it would shoot down alot of theories on this site based on Hanso (alot of very interesting ones too I must add.)
I kind of wanted to hear what people thought…
Hanso is mentioned as the funder of the Dharma inititive (i can’t spell today) Anywho, it’s in the beginning of season two when Jack and Locke watch the orientation video. Yah! that’s the one, the episode is called Orientation. Desmond tells them to watch the video, and that weird shot of Hanso through his window is in there.
Now, i missed the lost experience, and i’m a pretty big lost fan, So i’ve just kind of filled in the blanks, so yeah, that video is the only mention of him….
I think.
The producers have said that the Lost Experience will serve as canon for the TV show. If you want to read about it there’s a nice summary at Lostpedia.com.
You know this is a good question. I am a total Lost fanatic but I haven’t got clue about the LE. I spend waaaaaaay too much time on this one site as it is without spending hours figuring out secret websites and the like.
BUT I do think that the writers are catering to the people who DO get in to this sort of thing. And why not? If they can come up with something that runs alongside the show and adds value for the more web friendly fan but doesn’t take away from tv experience. Why wouldn’t they?
Good question though.
YAE! thanks! i spent way too long on that link!
Good question, veg. I didn’t get into LE either, but I’ve read quite abit about Alvar Hanso et al at Lostpedia. And I really don’t feel like I’ve missed anything, especially being here on this site, you really have to do research on the background of those people just to make a rational comment sometimes!!!
They probably expect those who do get into LE to share with those who do not, which has happened. Good question.
i only follow the game throug youtube and maybe at the end of the series the producer ans writers will make of…… dammit i dont know the word in english uh some kind of union? with the lost experience
ignore me
peace out
I believe the writers respect the fact that not everyone has got into (or is even aware of) the Lost Experience. It appeals to the hardcore, not to the regular but casual T.V. viewer (that probably makes up the most percentage of their audience). As such, I think the writers know they have a duty to only present a coherent programme that can be seen on T.V. Everything else, everything canon, serves to enrich the tapestry of the Lost universe and develop deeper understanding - but hopefully won’t be depended upon to actually make the thing make sense.
very well said, AC.
Like I said before, I just started watching Lost for the first time a few months ago, starting from the very first episode all the way to the end of season 3, so they’re all pretty fresh in my mind, so when I got to this site and read “Hanso this” and “Hanso that”, I thought, who the heck is Hanso!? Did I miss an episode or DVD!?
Then I found Lostpedia and found out about the Lost Experience. So now I have some clue.
Thanks Jackismydad for filling me in that they actually did mention Hanso in the orientation film. Do you know off hand if they just mention the foundation? Or do they go into more detail? Its kind of hard to tell what information is from the show and what is from the LE on Lostpedia.
