This is a short one so I hope you enjoy it.
The thinking behind this is that the flashforward into the future simply doesn’t make sense. If Jack et al are really rescued then surely this would mean that the island would be officially ‘discovered’.
One would assume that the return of a large number of people from a hitherto undiscovered island in the pacific would make rather more than the local news. Logically then, there would be a lot of people looking for the island making Jack’s search for the island far easier than waiting for a plane crash. Chances are someone would find the island before any new occupiers could hide it again if indeed there were any new occupiers (such as DI or whoever Naomi is working for etc).
This leads me to believe that its possible the premonitions are being ‘given’ to people to influence them or scare them. Its possible that the Jack/Kate flashforward is a false premonition being given to Jack by Jacob in order to influence events before a critical moment. The critical moment being the ‘actual’ rescue of the survivors which we haven’t seen yet, lets not forget. Its still possible in the timeline we are watching to alter events so the future may not come to pass.
Be interested to know what you think. Hope this hasn’t been posted before - I’ve tried to catch up but you people have a lot of ideas!

I personally don’t think the flash forward happens either. I’m sure something happens to change the course of events.
This could very well be the case! I like it!
OK here goes–-the flash forward scenes that we saw do happen, but its not in the future, its in the past. That is why Jack’s father is alive and Kate hasn’t yet killed her step father among other happenings. Of course this doesn’t quite meet time-space continuum “science”, but we can’t have everything!
Consider this:
Dharma is linked to some pretty powerful people. I’m sure Dharma has a few islands (mikhail said i thought you were working in canada to the 2 girls before he killed them which suggests there are other places).
Tell the losties that they have to say they were stranded on another island but were kept captive by inhabitants and they killed some losties as they were cannibals - eventually they were found and all inhabitants killed to cover up the real story. Losties then told if they say anything then Dharma will use their future seeing abilities to kill them or not save them. Some losties blab and are killed, hence the funeral - Jack blames himself and turns into junkie!
Of course it may just be a future flash like you say but I had great fun then making that story up! Still good theory, yours it is +1.
Producers said we would learn about the characters, past, present and future also but which future?
great theory. However, wouldn’t you be pissed off if the “Flashforward” was not the real future?? Why watch if everything the producers present to us can be changed that easily. They clearly wanted us to believe that it was a flashforward, and if season 4 starts with an explanation that it wasn’t really the future, then is everything on the show changeable?
I don’t know, it just seems stupid if we see one thing, and then something completely different happens.
um…. seeing one thing and then something completely different happens is what makes lost great. i do not want to watch lost off the island. it’s the equivilent of Saved By the Bell, The College Years
The flashforward scene are things to come if the future doesnt change. Its not in the past. Hence the golden ticket Jack has. Also we are forgeting about Desmond. Because of Charlie, Desmond now knows that the boat isnt Penny’s. The phone call already happened so at the start of season 4 Desmond comes back to the beach and tells them.
I completely agree with you 100%,
