This theory is based on Smoky killed Naomi by MrAlpert. You may wish to read it before continuing.
When pushed into the Sonic fence it was set to stun - Mikhail so this in a future vision and set the fence to stun and not kill so then he knew he would be able to get away from the losties who thought he was dead

Has anyone noticed the link between Desmond, Mikhail and Smoky/Jacob.
We all know that since Desmond turned the key on the hatch he firstly had a vision of the past then has had many visions of possible futures. Some people think Desmond is a bit crazy as surely no one can see into the future?
Mikhail was asked by Ben to get ‘detailed’ files on all the losties which he did and found out things that would be pretty hard to find out (e.g. Sawyer killing burger van man). Also take note here, just as Desmond has been able to change things with his future visions so has Mikhail.

When Mikhail was shot with the spear he had a vision and put a metal plate in or something - he didn’t want to change certain things as he was annoyed at Ben for blocking the signal and he knew that he had to let Charlie get the code of the girl and then inputs it in - after this Mikhail blows up the glass window and just happens to be carrying a grenade! (I’m not sure how he’s gonna survive the grenade but something tells me he will). I also believe that Ben may not be aware of Mikhail’s future visionary abilities as he thinks he is a bit crazy.
Smoky/Jacob picks up visions of peoples pasts (e.g. Ecko). When Walt appeared just before John was about to shoot himself there WAS definitely voices and a large dark shadow - Jacob/Smoky had a vision that John was going to do this and saves him by turning up as Walt. Also they/he needs John for some reason in the future and they go of to kill Naomi as she is bad!! (remember that Smoky was described as a security system of the island and it is trying to protect the island from unwanted visitors). Also why doesn’t John say ‘hey everyone Walt is here and he’s got something to tell you’, because he knows its not Walt. Also Jacob is also a bit crazy.
I believe that the electro magnetism properties or something else of the island are responsible for this - Desmond got a huge dose of it, Mikhail has probably been exposed to it (maybe that’s how he lost his eye and Jacob had a massive mega dose of it and that is why he needs help to gain back his body(maybe that’s how he can cure cancer as he has seen into the future but I think the island does it automatically).
I think the visions that they have are a bit blurry like Desmonds and that would explain why they don’t know exactly what is going to happen (of course Desmond could be Jacob but I think they are separate people for now)
I think this is possibly one reason why people would seek to find the island as well, why you could even find out what next weeks lottery numbers are going to be!
So maybe not time travel after all!

great post. its pretty accurate and you reflect well on past episodes. I think that smokey isnt trying to keep people from the island, i think he is tryin to keep people ON the island. Hence turning into walt to keep locke from killing himself. Locke is so obviously important and can’t be lost. Also on a completely different note, if you take a good look at jacob in the few milliseconds that u see him, he lloks like locke but with long hair. Locke= Jacob? guess thats why they cal it lost. cos we all are.
Some very good ideas! I also have theorized that Smokey the security system is responsible for many of the unusual aparations on the island. Alot of your comments make logical sense. I believe that the security system is also responsible for the cloaking of the island. The notion that other people on the island have preview flashes is quite likely and your linking this idea to occurences on the island is right on the money. whether all of this is true only time will tell, but I really like the way that your thinking. Good work.
quite inventive albert .It could be a coincidence that the fence was not set to a leathel level ,and mikhail recovered as fast as every one else on island.as far as mikhail seeing the future is concerned …….hmm…….. I don’t c that happening but if that was the case would’t he know things like 1)looking glass not flooded(ben lied ) .2)survivors (sayeed,locke,kate)invading his place.3)des ,hugo ,jin already found naomi b4 him and he was surprised to c them. as far as wearing a protective thing 4 spear is concerned i think he would rather kill dasmond then let charlie do his job if thats what he wanted.But who knows ? in this show expect anything.hey could it b that what ever gave the island its healing properties michial was given its overdose?so thats why he is kind of imortal?what do u think buddy
I’m with you on thinking it has to do with premonitions and not necessarily time-travel. See “Receivers and Transmitters”, but I didn’t have nearly the detail that you have here ;-) I like the threads I’ve been reading about Smokey morphing into Walt, etc. Very interesting!
The biggest oddity on the Island so far is the “smoke monster.” And if we take TPTB at face value that there will be a plausible explanation, then we have to figure out what “smokey” is all about. We’ve had theories from nanobots (debunked) to original inhabitants to a psychic manifestation. Smokey does seem deadly to some and to others just a force. This may be a spoiler. Smokey did not harm Locke just kind of manhandled him. When Ben took Locke to meet Jacob, Locke told Ben that Jacob said to him to “Help me.” Put these two segments together and it is possible that “Smokey” is Jacob. But what happened. Maybe a technical accident of sorts where Jacob’s body becomes separated from his mind and his body appears as a conglomeration of macro-molecules still abled to be control by his mind. This wouldn’t be nanobots but something akin and might appeal to those who pursued a nanobot theory. Jacob is now seeking help to get his mind and body together and Locke was the most appealing of all the Losties. The technical reason for Jacob’s body being separated from his mind is the question. Also, it appears that Ben and Jacob are on the same page and that’s is why Locke, now helping Jacob, kills Naomi knowing that another group entering the island could delay or prevent Jacob’s body and mind from coming together.

Gil, I think you may have brought something else up. Mikhail was surprised to see the Losties which could mean he had a future vision about the flashing beacon Like Desmond but didn’t see the rest - maybe he saw himself saving Naomi and then taking her sat phone.
However he was ‘Surprised to see them’ as you say but also knew about the sat phone which I don’t think he actually saw
He isn’t able to see everyting as the visions are random just like Desmonds so that why he might ha not seen people invading his place etc etc - maybe they have visions at the same time (flashing yellow light, flashing beacon), every 108 minutes?
Remember he said he was part of the Dharma Initiative and is older than Ben so he might know things that Ben doesn’t and Ben has kept him in the dark about things - Maybe he wants to see his old Dharma buddies again so that’s why he let events unfold.
Still mulling over other comments made.
Just spotted something obvious, has flashing lights got anything to do with being able to see the future (flashing beacon, flashing yellow light and the episode Flash before your eyes)

Flash of lightning that would have killed Charlie! Flashes have something to do with tell being able to see future events surely?
I like this idea. Mikhail seeing flashes of future events might explain how he had details of Naomi’s ship, how far away it was, etc..when Naomi spoke to Mikhail all she said was, “I’m not alone”. How did he get the other information? Very plausible:)

Very good and convincing about Mikhail. This is the best explanation I think for his seeming invincibility. You reminded me of some earlier thoughts I had about abilities of some of the other characters which I think I’ll post separately.
Mikhail seems to be able to speak more than one language and so does Naomi… She babbled on in a few different languages so maybe Mikhail understood her as she revealed the location of the boat in another language.
