Locke’s attempted suicide.
I just watched the finalĂ© again at work, and I heard this sweeping crescendo when Locke was lying in the ditch ready to blow his face off. Then I heard something I hadn’t noticed before. The music builds and builds for a good ten seconds, then it stops…and if you listen (you don’t have to try all that hard) you can hear what sounds like whispers. I haven’t heard whispers in a while.
Did anyone else notice this? Am I going crazy? Someone chime in and discuss.

Aye, there were whispers.
Couldn’t make out what any of ‘em were saying however.
The whispers are the calling card of the Smoke monster. Usually when the whispers are heard, an aparation is at hand. In my humble opinion the smoke monster seem capable of shape shifting at will and usually these odd occurences are predicated by the whispers. So the question is was the appearance of Walt actually old Smokey or was it really Walt? Walt was believed to be home or at least send off in a boat, but Walt had some capabilities or his own. One note Locke was seemingly paralysed in the pit, and then Walt tells him to get up weve got work to do. If Locke was unable to use his legs down in the pit it makes me think that Locke had ‘lost his faith’. Which was seemingly restored by the words of confidence and encouragement from Walt/Smokie.
I think there were and that usually signifies the presence of the monster.
hurricane9 posted transcripts of the whispers by scene in one of her posts. Just click on her name and look for “whispers transcript”.
Very interesting and spooky stuff!
Wish I could watch TV shows at work :( ;)
Just a thought here but has anyone noticed the over-use old Smokie has with Walt?Smokie has kinda used Walt numerous times throughout the show, more than any other character. But tharde5 reminded me about Walt’s “gifts”. Walt does seem to have some psychic power, to state bluntly. And remember that Walt actually(im pretty sure he was talking to Locke) said that he didnt want to leave the island.
You can listen to the clip of those whispers at losteastereggs.blogspot.com
some people say they can hear the words Naomi and Namaste in the whispers. if they do say something about Naomi, this could connect to the fact that the first thing Locke does when he gets up is go to stop her.
“Thank you and namaste” is the close of one of the videoes with Alvar Hanso…could this lend credence to Hanso controlling the smoke monster?
I dont really watch em at work, it’s just playing really small in the background behind a plethora of other windows.
I am kind of still thinking that the smoke monster is controlled or was created by Dharma, and Jacob and Walt are totally different….I think they are “fighting it out too”.
I’ve listened to it about 100 times, and it doesn’t sound anything like Namaste Naomi.
im not sure about what those whispers said but i remember whispers saying “elizebeth” in a previous eppisode
I read somewhere on another site that they were able to break down some of the whispers and closed caption showed a couple of others. One quote was very interesting. When Sawyer hauled off into the jungle during the boar chase, one of the voices said, “He’s getting too close to the door. What should we do?” They have never explained the center of the island yet. It was the ? on the blast door map and it was a fairly large area. Has everyone always been led away from it?
