We have to take into account that the Island is a character in the series and probably takes the funcion of the narrator of the story not only about the Island it self but from everybody who was selected to be in there at some point.

We are just caching up with things, everything that has happened in these three seasons are in fact past sentece for the narrator. I belive that the only season that will pass in present (real-time if you like) will be the last one when they return to the Island.
