This theory is based on Knife-throwing Walt is on the island by brodie7007. You may wish to read it before continuing.
Did anyone notice when Locke was down in the pit, a large shadow appears and then the sound of voices

Looking at the theory, Walt killed Naomi I went and looked back at the scene.
Did anyone notice when Locke was down in the pit, a large shadow appears and then the sound of voices ( in previous episodes smoky has been around when this has happened). Locke had his eyes shut, was about to pull the trigger then looks up and sees Walt.
I think Smoky is impersonating Walt (Smoky is somehow related to Jacob, his dog maybe - who knowss???) and went to help Locke. As not to scare Locke, smoky changes into Walt and they head of together to find Naomi. Maybe Jacob had a flash forward vision like Desmonds (maybe desmond is Jacob?) that they were going to make contact with the ship which is bad news.
I do agree that Walt/smoky threw the knife as I first assumed it was Locke but he did say that he couldn’t kill anyone so well done for pointing that out.
I do think it is smoky as:
- Jacob hates technology so the knife was used instead of a gun
2.Walt is alone and surely Micheal would be with him shouting ‘Walt! Walt! (ooh how annoying is it when he does that - please, please kill Micheal of in season 4 producers!!)
- Since when has Walt developed a killing streak (smoky has in the past e.g Eko - still dont know why Eko was killed?)
Finally Ben said lets hope Jacob can save you now - and he did through his pet dog Smoky!
Hmmm. Interesting. But I’d unlikely. First…why wouldn’t anyone have spot this supposed Walt? or even the black smoke. It doesn’t seem like a characteristic of the smoke and even at that, why couldn’t it have just impersonated Locke if it had the ability…

The smoke monster didnt have to take out Eko with a knife. It picked him up and battered the crap out of him. I like the possibility that it could be Walt, or just Locke. Im not too sure.
i think the smoke monster is jacobs form outside the cabin. i think your onto something with the impersonating walt so locke follows thing. jacob helped locke, he wants lockes help.
Smoky doesn’t like an audience and got Eko on his own by changing into Eko’s brother and lured him away - why was Eko killed though as he was a great character
Just thought also that we know smoky likes Locke as it confonted him in season 1 and Locke said what he saw was beautiful!

yes! maybe all the hallucinations of people have been smokey trying to get them on their own. do you think its possible smoky is jacob. it explains quite a bit.

I think Jacob is Smoky
But isnt it easyer for smoky to take the form of John, kill naomi, and threaten to shoot jack if he uses the phone, then Smoky taking on the form of walt and getting John to do it?
Smoky could be Jacob and is a definite possibility and would explain a few things, black circles around the house etc (bi- product of the smoke? As he’s possibly trapped in time then it could mean that he could only leave the house in the form of a spirit like smoke.
Did like the theory of the cerebus though.
Smoky may have also been Locke or maybe he took over Locke body - something spiritish about Jacob after all and he is powerful that’s for sure!
your right…maybe walt was the smoke…but I would like to point out that walt has been impersonated but something before, as said by the producers in the catch up episode right before the season 3 finale, remember shannon and sayid saw him with water coming out of his mouth. I don’t think that walt is off the island though as we have heard ben say he only likes there to be an illusion that the others can get off the island but he will never actually let them leave. but I do think that locke would kill naomi, first off she wasn’t his dad and secondly, if killing her ment not going back into a wheelchair for him he wold do it. plus we don’t know what walt, or the smoky….if he was the smoke….told locke about the island and/or other things.
Smokey killed Eko because the actor was clashing with the show’s writer/directors/etc. Let’s not confuse ourselves that it’s something greater than a convenience.

I think that it is a good theory that smoky can impersonate people. When Lock looked into it, didnt he see pictures/memories etc?
Also, if smoky is to do with Jacob, then that would explain why the cabin is always moving; smoky can impersonate the cabin also.
