Desmond told Charlie that he would be the one to swim down to the looking glass to disarm the jamming device under the flashing light (based on another of Desmonds premonitions). Desmond would have stayed in the boat if it hadnt of been for the patch-man shooting at him, so is it possible that Desmonds presence in the looking glass has changed his predictions? we know he changed the outcome of the premonitions many times before to save charlies life?

Another point to consider is that not only does Desmonds presence in the looking glass change the outcome but he also receives information from Charlie that he wouldnt have received in the original premonition.

Charlie writes on his hand ‘Not pennys boat’ surely this may cause Desmond to attempt to stop Claire and baby Aaron and the other losties getting on the helicopter and being rescued?

Also at the beginning of the ‘Through the looking glass episode’ take a look at the Asian man sat behind and to the right (Jacks left) of Jack on the aeroplane in the opening scene. Does it look like Jin to anyone else?

The final scene in the last episode is not a flash forward it is actually a flash to the present it is right now….or is it?

Also on another tangent does anyone else remember in series 2 when Hurley was running to the plane (in his flashback) and when he sat in his seat the magazine he was holding had a polar bear on the back?

I believe everything in Lost is a flashback. Some more recent others olders. I bet that the only season that will happen in the present time is the last one.

Well Desmon predicted that Charlie would died and he did. Desmond had nothing to do with it. Desmond tried to prevent that from happening but Charlie had to go as an Hero, with slow motion death and everything. The only thing that Desmon didn’t saw was the tiny little twist with Penny talking to Charlie and Charlie giving his last enigmatic message saying that it wasn’t Penny’s boat.

But something tells me that this was just something to refresh the character and that he will appear again in the 5th season in some way. Well I think that everyone that died on the Island is coming again in a way or another. Specially Mr. Eko.

So…. what are you getting at here? If you’re implying that Charlie is dead, sorry but it has been confirmed and the actor is going on to do something else (Hobbit, rockstar heroin-addict who crashes on island….. what next???)

Anyways, I don’t believe this is a theory and I have no idea why you would end a statement with ‘…or is it’ unless your intentions were to confuse us.

Please add your theory using the form below. Note that a “theory” can be anything from a full-blown, evidence-backed, sweeping theory about the show, a small bit of speculation on a particular character, event, theme, etc., or even a creative bit of “fan fiction” about the future of the LOST story”

Copied this from this website so I assumed I was able to surmise and speculate and even express my opinion without someone telling me they don’t think it’s a theory?

Whether you believe this is a theory or not is immaterial as I never claimed it was such a thing. And I am not disputing in any way that Charlie is dead my eyes do indeed work and they were able to transmit data to me that showed him clearly dying (plus I was already aware that the character has left the show)

The point I was trying to make was that when we are shown the future are we then able to change it? And Desmond’s presence in the looking glass and the fact that Charlie passed ‘not penny’s boat’ may have changed the future rescue of Claire and Aaron….that’s all I was saying….or is it!

I think you’re right sindypockets, Desmond presence could have changed things… charlie shouldn’T DIE! They have to do something about that. I thought Locke was dead too, several times… Also, I think Desmond assumed it was Penny’s boat, but in his vision (the only one we haven’t seen anything about) he didn’t see exactly that.
