the episode that killed those two new characters bothered me. there had to be a reason to introduce these spiders other than to bury someone alive.

my theory is that although we saw jacks father in the morgue he had himself bit by the spider to appear dead so that jack would be on the plane. and when jack talks about his father in the future it is because his father really isnt dead but still kicking.

The Medusa Spider was discovered on the island, so how did Jack’s Father manage to get bitten by one? I’ve heard this theory before =] Its a resonable suggestion but I’m quite sure Christian Shepherd is dead, Jack was slightly delirious and under the influence of a highly addictive drug. When he says ‘get my father down here’, here could be referring to ‘up there’ as in ‘heaven’.

Interesting, but i’m not sure whether to agree or not, I’d kind of like it to be true.

FYI, The producers have already said in many podcasts that Christian is DEAD!!!

I also think that episode was boring. It was the worst episode ever. But there must be something we are not able to realize about it now… maybe your theory could be true… I don´t think the authors would write an episode like that with no reason.

It was all about the radio. :-)

I personally think the episode was about the diamonds more than anything else.

i hope the episode IS more intricately linked to a later episode, id lose a lot of faith in the writers if they put that in purely for filler material.

This doesn’t really make any sense. Aside from whats already been mentioned (They say that Jack’s dad is dead on podcasts, and the Medusa spider is a new species that Arzst discovered on the island [which by the way doesn’t actually exist]), why would Christian Shepard walk mysteriously around the island, never interacting with his son but appearing in his frame of reference several times, and then never make contact again for the next 90 days? And if the Medusa spider freezes your body for 8 hours, then Christian would have had to be bitten several times in a row because he was most definitely dead and in that coffin for more than 8 hours. The only way this could be plausible is if the others took the spider to Australia, planted it so it bit him, and used planted funeral workers to ensure that Christian Shepard would be put in a coffin where he’d be bit repeatedly by the spiders for several days. And that could only happen if the others knew about the plane crash, which they apparently didn’t.
