To steal a line from Battlestar Galactica, this has all happened before, and this will all happen again. It is entirely feasible to this writer that the Quantum Theory/Time Travel/Alternate Timelines theories are legitimate and in play in the course of the series.

SInce Naomi landed on the island with a picture of Penny and Desmond, the assumption has been that Penny must have sent her and the ship she arrived on. However, when Charlie get’s Penny’s call in the Looking Glass Station, she tells him she hadn’t sent any boat. If she didn’t send it, then who did? There’s been much speculation of late about it being Dharma or Penny’s father, but try this one on for size.
Hurley sent the ship.
Keeping the Quantum Theory/Time Travel/Alternate Timelines in mind, and knowing that Hurley is an uber-rich lotto winner, it seems altogether plausible that Hurley could have sent the ship. He’d have the means to organize and finance such an expedition, it would seem from his flashbacks that he’d have the time to search for and locate potential sites where the island might be and he has been proven time and again to be the sort that will put it all on the line for his friends.
To steal a line from Battlestar Galactica, this has all happened before, and this will all happen again. It is entirely feasible to this writer that the Quantum Theory/Time Travel/Alternate Timelines theories are legitimate and in play in the course of the series. From that perspective, it seems that “future Hurley” would do whatever he could to help “island Hurley” and his friends, especially if the initial post-island outcome was disasterous to any of the Losties.
Just a thought. Any takers?

Aye, while i personally dont subscribe to the time travel theories, i do agree that hurley is yet another person that would have the financial means to pull off such an expedition…i think that most people have forgotten that. nice going. :)
“Just a thought. Any takers?”
No, not here! Hurley’s money will come into play, but not in the way you describe. There’s has to be some sense to all this and the plot will center on the islands powerful secrets and those trying to control, maintain or steal it.
Aye brutha :)
Highly unlikely though…
A. How and when did Hurley send a message off the island? B. Do you think “Cheech” would be looking for him? C. Or his mother for that matter? D. I loved it when he ran over Ryan :)
Go Hurley, Go Hurley, Go Hurley
I’m saying that if Jack’s flash-forward was in fact a flash-forward, and if we did really see an eventual outcome post-island, that it is feasible that Hurley also is seeking the island and a way to either get back to it or to alter the island timeline. It’s not that Hurley got a message off the island, it’s that Hurley got off the island, and is now trying to return. Cheech isn’t looking for him. His mother isn’t looking for him. “Future Hurley” is seeking to alter the events of the island life of “island Hurley” and company.
But, isn’t the ship a bad thing according to the “flash forward” circumstances?
I can see your theory playing out with future-Hurley financing something else to “help” (but not necessarily rescue) the Losties, but, it seems that what we saw in the finale indicates that the current ship (Naomi’s people) are BAD NEWS for everyone.
We shall see.
I think the the ship was sent by pennys father, the widmore corporation, their the ones that ben is fearing from discovering the island. also did the widmore corporation sponsor desmond on his boat race maybe to get rid of him out of pennys life? penny is tryin to find desmond with that search station that detected the magnetic wave.
As was stated in another thread, it would appear that one of the researchers working with Penny to find Desmond was Jack. Keeping that in mind, it is certainly plausible that Hurley is also searching for Des and/or the island.
Okay: The researcher working with Penny (if you are referring to the dude who called Penny from somewhere in the Arctic at the end of Season 2) LOOKED like Jack but I don’t think it was Jack. The creators have not hidden the fact that the character was played by a different actor (see Lostpedia for casting of that character) - it is not Matthew Fox / Jack.
