I wasn’t sure whether to post this because it is such a simple idea—but it didn’t occur to me until last night because I was concentrating on the questions raised by Through the Looking Glass like “Who’s in the coffin” and “Who is Kate’s He”.
Anyway—having gone “Through the Looking Glass,” Kate and Jack are now the opposite of their island characters. Instead of being “Mr. Fix-It” Jack is a wreck. Kate is not running away, but keeping very close to whoever “he” is. She also seems very dependent on this man rather than the indpendent feisty character she was on the island. One weird thought I had about the “he” (can’t stay away from those questions)—as several people have pointed out, Kate looks well-put-together and is driving a Volvo—what if Sawyer’s opposite character in the future is a successful businessman (hmmm is that the opposite of a conman?). Or maybe Kate is back with her police officer hubby (on island sleeping with a murderer and conman, in future sleeping with a cop)?
It will be interesting to see other flashforwards and see if the looking glass effect is still in effect. I also still think they have to “go back”—not just in space, but to the timeline and change things so that this future doesn’t happen.

I have been wondering that as well - but some things are messed up. Jack’s dad is alive, so many things must be messed up…they got back, but “when” in the time line was it? It had to have been after the plane crashed - why the golden ticket? But how would future events bring Jacks dad back? I’d love to see Sawyer in his future life as well….but, did only a few people escape??? Is that why Jack is a mess and has to go back?
Interesting thoughts, jaz.
has anybody thought that the “he” could be kates son? i mean if she is actually pregnant from sawyer, it would make sense in the future for her to have a kid right? maybe that’s who she was referring to. he would be quite young but old enough to wonder where mom is
just a thought
to me is seemed fairly obvious that “he” is Sawyer.
Also, how do you know that Jack’s father is alive? We didn’t see him in the episode; Jack was an emotional wreck and out of his ming oon drugs; and the doctor gave him a funny look when he said it… it seems to me that future Jack was deluded; that his father was dead; and that he has struggled to fit back in to the real world after having left the island.
I think this is a very good observation. I’ll have to watch how this plays out.
You have to believe that the man in charge would be calling security to lock him up…..especially since he pretty much knows he tried to kill himself….trying to kill yourself and behaving as if your dad is alive AND people going along with it….? The Doc let him walk out….people heard him yelling about his dad…..? Looks like Multi universe…start reading Adam spooner - and someone else who answered him..
That wasn’t the impression I got from Kate’s tone of voice—it was more like someone she felt scared would find out that she was out. Also, some people have said that the name “Jeremy Bentham” appears on the newspaper clipping which raises the theme of being watched as Bentham was the designer of the Panopticon.
jazprof: I agree with your conclusions about Bentham and also was under the impression that “the he” Kate was referring to was someone she was afraid of. Nice theory.
I definately don’t think the he is Sawyer. Sawyer is still on the island. I think the he is Aaron.
