Walt and John have already been referred to as “special” to the island. I believe these are the two Losties that can time-travel. I believe Mikhail is the Other than can also time-travel. Finally, Walt is the person in the coffin.

Walt and John are the two Losties that have demonstrated the ability to time travel. Walt comes back to visit John at the burial grounds, and I think some of what we’ve seen John do in season 3 will actually be revealed to be trips back from the future in season 4.

Mikhail must be able to time travel, as we’ve seen him come back from the dead multiple times. Think of Doc Brown in “Back to the Future”- he puts on a protective vest to stop the bullets from killing him. I haven’t compeltely thought out the Mikhail part of this theory- but am throwing it out there for consideration.

Walt is the person in the coffin, which is why Jack is devastated. He does not know that John also has the power of time travel, so believes his only chance of altering the past has been lost with Walt.

Perhaps we will learn that the woman in the car crash was “sent” by Locke (meaning he influenced this event to occur so as to stop Jack from killing himself). I bet the woman in the crash will become known to us, as will her 8 year old son. Maybe they are Claire and Aaron??

If Walt was in the coffin, the funeral director wouldnt have told Jack there was no family. Wouldn’t Michael have been there? The theory about Claire and Aaron is very interesting. That would be a good one to chew on. Jack wanted so badly to do the surgery.

Maybe Michael is dead, too. Walt’s mother is dead, and it doesn’t sound like he had much other family. Who knows!

I have always thought that Walt was key to the whole LOST structure. With the last episode I noticed links to Walt Disney that I hadn’t been seen before (the “Golden Pass” and a possible reference to “Tom Sawyer Island”).

    Some Possible Walt Disney Connections:

The show itself (“LOST”) is produced by a company owned by Disney. “Walt” is the name of the founder of Disney. The boy Walt likes comics, and has a powerful imagination (“You have one hell of an imagination, kid,” Sawyer once told him). Walt Disney not only had a great imagination, wrote comics, but even called his company “Imagineering.” Disney was the creator of his worlds, and the boy Walt seems to be able to create reality from his imagination (killing birds, etc.) . “Walt” is the first word spoken in the first episode of the whole series. Walt had a stuffed polar bear as a baby, long before the island. Walt was the first to not want to leave the island, even before Locke. I’m sure the list could go on … . Jack is given a “Golden Pass” by Oceanic. This is the name of a special ticket Disney gives to grant entry to all Disney theme parks and attractions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GoldenPass%28Disney%29) . The plaque as you enter Disneyland reads: “Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.” Walt Disney’s favorite attraction at Disneyland was “Tom Sawyer Island” (see http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=ww070523ws) Not only was the “ISLAND” Walt (Disney’s) favorite, but it was also the only attraction completely designed by him. Is it only coincidence that SAWYER kills TOM while “saying that is for taking the boy off the raft” when the actual novel “Tom Sawyer” is about a boy on a raft?

Walt is key, maybe the creator of the whole lost universe for all I know…..

They always told us that Walt was “Special.” I think, also that Walt is the only one with a somewhat positive father-issue. We know that everyone on the island has seriously-crappy father-issues. In fact, none of them would have been on that flight, or got to the island, were it not for an evil, maninupulative, lying, rich, powerful, opportunistic, etc. father, that they either had to kill, run from, ignore, discover, be ashamed of, etc… All are in the process of getting RID their fathers, literally or figuratively. But Walt is acquiring his real father, the exact opposite. He has issues accepting him, but is the only one the island who’s father loves him, cares for him, and will do anything (even kill) for him…

You make some very interesting points. I especially love the Tom/Sawyer/Walt/raft connection.

I agree- Walt is key. And isn’t it interesting that the other “key” person is named “Locke”?

All time travel theories aside, Aaron most likely isn’t the 8-year old car crash boy in the 2007 flash forward… he was born after they crashed on the island in 2004. Jack probably wanted to operate on the woman so she wouldn’t tell anyone that his suicide attempt was the reason for her car wreck.

PS—You make some very good points. I had thought that it might be Ben for the same reasons (Jack distraught over the death because he sees this person as the way back to the island)—but Walt is a better fit in many ways, including the coffin.

And Tiger—great connections, especially re: the raft. My son (who is perhaps more in tune with Disney than me being 10) actually said about Walt (after the polar bear showed up)—maybe he’s “Walt” because he animates things, lol.
