When Desmond was being fired upon by Mikhail, he dived into the ocean to flee to the Looking Glass Station.

I presume he did this because he knew he could hide there. But how did he know he could hide there if he thought the station was flooded?

He definitely allowed Charlie to believe it was flooded. What motive would Desmond have for not cluing Charlie in to the fact that he’d survive his initial swim down?

Did he expect Charlie would have been more reluctant to take on the mission if he’d known he was going to endure a beating? Charlie called his mission of “piece of cake”, but it turned out to be anything but that.

Thoughts?

I’ve thought all along that Desmond was lying to Charlie about his vision. Every vision before this one was shown to us. This time all we get is Desmond telling us about it. That seems to be significant. Why wouldn’t they show us the flash this time if they did everytime before that? Also, there have been times when Desmond was AWOL. Maybe he found that station and knows what it’s doing but wants Charlie to do the deed? Something doesn’t ring true about him.

I think Desmond honestly didn’t know. Remember he wanted to go in Charlies place. When he awoke from being smashed in the head by Charlie, he was being shot at. Why did he jump in the ocean you may ask? Well, wouldn’t you if a sniper was bent on killing you and there was no where else to go? I didn’t think he was lying to Charlie. I believe that Desmond truly thought he was changing Charlies fate by becoming part of the vision, like he changed everything else in Charlies future. Charlie already accepted that he was going to die and Desmond knew this. Charlie was bent on dying to save Claire. Why would Desmond further lie to him? Apparently Desmond did not see anythin past Charlie drowning, otherwise he would not have been surprised to see Patchy gone. Both of them may have thought that the future had been changed until Desmond say that Patchy was gone and Charlie saw Patchy throuhg the window. That’s when Charlie realized what needed to be done.

As for Desmond knowing about the beating…..well, if you look back at all of his other visions, they are not all a movie in his head. Just flashes. t’s possible that he didn’t see that flash.

I agree, i think des dove down for lack of anywhere else to go, but yes he thought the station was flooded, but on the slim chance that there was an available hiding place he had to go, it was sure better than being shot at i think…

I was thinking the same thing to about the station being flooded but I dont’ think desmond ever said that the station was flooded he jst said that when he fliped the switch it would fill with water and he would drown. I think that if the room was already underwater then it couldn’t fill up. or maybe we all just misinturpreted what he meant by it.

hebrewhammer: we only see one od desmonds charlie flashbacks. The one with the arrow. if you remember any other please feel free to tell me. Other then that he only tells us about them.

I’m waiting for the transcripts… but Desmond seemed to be highly uncertain of what was happening when Bonnie was shot and bleeding… I think he was saying it’s failed when Charlie jumped in and suddenly got all slick on his interrogation via logic.

It could be that we were already outside of Desmond’s vision…

Desmond was being shot at. If you are being shot at in open water where are you going to go to hide. Maybe down in the water. Desmond just didnt want to get shot. If desmond did have the vision of charlie in the looking glass then he also would have saw the two woman there. he didnt think it was a good place to hide he just didnt want to die from rifle fire so he went into survivor mode and fled the scene and the only place for him to go was down which there was the hatch so if he is underwater and is loosing breath and if he comes up he gets shot then he should just take his chances in the hatch. And he probibly knew that if Mikhal was there shooting him that he was probly going to the hatch to kill charlie. Desmond know that charlies mission wasnt complete so he went to help.
