Basically, I think that everyone is concentrating too much on who died then on the funeral itself…

This is not the first funeral that Jack has attended. slowly the survivors of Flight 815 have been dying since they got rescued because of Jack. this is why Jack is so upset because he now knows that Ben and Locke were right not to make the call. I do not think that the person who dies is Ben, Sawyer, or Locke. The way that Jack reacted tells me its one of the other survivors that we all love that has died. The funeral is empty because the survivors that have not died yet do not want to attend any more funerals.

Oh well just thought I put that out there…

i think it is ben, my reasons are:

-jack said he was neither friend or family — meaning that he was obviously saying that it was his “enemy”

-no one knows ben in the “real world”

-jack knows that he was wrong, and ben was right.. everyone is going to die (and i think when he says everyone is going to die, he means that everyone will be brought back to their boring, stale, and intimidating lives and they will die living those lives; live their lives for the grave. its not like jack didnt have a reason not to believe ben, ben cries wolf a lot. ben wants to stay on the island because of its wonderful properties, its almost gives him something to live for and stuff)

thats just my base theory on bens “Funeral”

man that season finale was crazy

Very unlikey it was Ben since the name started with J and had Antham in the last name. Last i checked his name was Ben Lianis or somethignliek that, but it could also be someone we have yet to meet.

I agree that we should probably focus on the funeral and not who is in the coffin. Jack assumed a leadership role on the island. It occurs to me that he feels that they are his responsibility. Any people such as Rose who are being kept alive by the healing powers they encountered on the island, may be dead shortly after returning home.

Ben warned Jack that the phone call would lead to the death of his people. Adversity has made them a tight knit group (this is the goal, but I’ll save it for another post!). They all seem to love each other.

Now imagine how it would be for Jack when he started discovering that most of the survivors didn’t have many friends or family. Some of them have troubled pasts. Some of them have major illnesses. After awhile, other survivors don’t even bother to show up when someone dies. He probably thinks, even if it’s not a friend or family, shouldn’t we go to each other’s funeral?

He kept Ben alive to show him that he failed. This thought pops into his head more frequently now….. Maybe Ben was right.

Those were my thoughts when I looked at it from a possible emotional standpoint.

yeah, or maybe that all the other people from the flight have already died, and that Jack and Kate are the only ones left, so thats why no one went to the funneral

Edwin: good point. The message is that Jack is at his wits end. He’s reached the point he has decided he must find a way back to the island.

    Well done. +1
