I knew that by being a dedicated nirvana fan the song was from their first or last studio albums by the way it sounded. The song is called Scentless Apprentice from their last studio album In Utero. The lyrics may hold a key or it may just be Jacks favorite music.
The lyrics are actually somewhat disturbing, but the name of the song may hold a clue. Scentless- someone who is basically cold and brutal has no feelings(perhaps Jack leaving the island with Kate and whoever else leaving others behind) Apprentice-one who follows an other, soon to become a new leader(possibly Jack taking an evil role and becoming more like Ben killing his group of followers) Here are the lyrics, but like I said I believe the connection lies in the song name or the fact Jack was suicidal, Kurt Cobain lead singer and songwriter of Nirvana commited suicide in 1994

i wondered if the use of a nirvana song was showing the time period. Ie. Earlier 90s… I am still down with Nirvana but they were obviously huge at that time…
