LOST-Theories.com

I am not sure if this theory is out here already (I’m new and haven’t had time to read all of them.) I apologize if I’m not being original - it is unintentional.

My theory is based on the multiverse: the hypothesis that there are multiple possible universes that together comprise all of physical reality; sometimes referred to as parallel universes. This island somehow exists as an unique spot…a part of every single universe in the multiverse.

Occasionally, the island attracts things to it (the plane, the pirate ship, Rousseau’s boat, the helicopter, etc). People can also find it (this links somehow to the mysterious numbers). This is how the Dharma initiative located it. It is also how the Dharma Initiative continues to drop food (into the water at certain coordinates in its universe). Many different factions/scientists in many different universes are attempting to locate the island and harness its power. Once on the island, it is impossible to return to your own reality - hence the reason no one is allowed to leave the island. It is also the reason that when Naomi crashed on the island she said that the plane had been found and that all the bodies were accounted for (and dead). In her universe, the inhabitants of the plane did not crash onto the island. They all truly died. When they are rescued by Naomi’s boat, they return to her reality where Jack’s father is still alive and Kate is not wanted for murder (anyone notice she was free and not under arrest and in jail?). Jacob is someone who was somehow trapped between the hub and one of the multiverses. He can see things going on in different realities, but cannot make any changes or save himself. He is orchestrating the actions on the island through his communications with Ben. Once he realizes that locke can also hear him, he decides to ask him for help because Ben is no longer acting in his best interests. He hopes Locke will be able to free him from his limbo and bring him fully back to the island.

The original inhabitants of the island (Richard) have not aged at all since the day they met Ben as a small child. These people exist outside of the multiverse and therefore outside of the time/space continuum. They somehow serve the needs of the multiverse. So far, Richard has been the only one to leave the island alone (when he recruited Juliet and when he proved to Juliet that - in one of the universes at least - her sister was still alive). Somehow these original inhabitants are the only ones who can leave, go to a specific universe, and return with any accuracy.

The kidnapping of the children links into keeping the multiverse maintained. They need a future generation to keep the island runnning. They want more children to be born on the island (hence their struggle to solve the infant/mom death issue and their obsession with kidnapping all the pregnant women). These children would hopefully be like the original inhabitants.

The Dharma Initiative was one of the first of the scientific communities to find the island. They began to experiement and try to uncover the secrets of the island. The “hostiles” tried to protect the island by attaking them in the hopes that they would leave. When that didn’t work and they discovered that Ben could access some of the secrets of the island (seeing his dead mother), they waited for him to grow up and used him to kill off the interlopers.

They’ve attacked the newer people (the Losties) for the same reason. To protect the island and its secrets. As long as the Losties stayed on their beach and didn’t interfere when the Others kidnapped people for the good of the island, they wouldn’t kill them. However, if the island was threatened, they would do whatever it took to protect it.

As for the most recent episode (through the looking glass), Jack and the other “losties” are now lost in the wrong universe. As Ben predicted, it is killing them. My hope (and this is probably wishful thinking not really part of any theory) is that the title does not just refer to the name of the underwater station, but also to Jack (and other Losties) being able to look at an alternate reality and yet still return to the island to complete their journeys. I prefer to think that the story will play out on the island and not in the glimpse of the future that we saw.

Thanks for considering my theory ! I’m open to constructive criticism.

Yes, very good theory. How’s the weather in your universe?

Oh wow! That makes so much sense! Remember, only fools are enslaved by time and space! Oh my gosh, then Aaron and Alex probably only exist on the island, since their mothers died in the other universes before giving birth to them! Have you seen the movie “One” with Jet Li? It’s about a man who tries to kill all his alternate universe counterparts so he becomes the only him, and his thus very powerful. Perhaps Aaron and Alex are like that? Great theory!

    Absolutely awesome theory!
