The Richard in the woods knew that a lot of planning needed to take place. The only real “Hostile” I remember seeing is Richard, but I am sure there were others.

Richard must have know that what needed to be done would take an extreme amount of planning….he had a purpose, so it seems as time went by he worked things out with Ben, that they would keep some activities going. Juliet did say that Ben fixed the looking glass so that only their transmissions could be heard….If Hanso quit helping Dharma in 1987 and the purge took place around that time, is it possible the food drops were some of the planning that had to happen…also running the sub, etc. When Ben killed everyone did he ruin their “will” to want to use the Island? (I am sure other powerful people want to use the Island, but they just can’t find it). Dharma wanted to do good….look what Ben did!!

I think that it is fairly safe to say Ben has succeeded in cutting off the outside worlds ability to communicate with the Island, and maybe pushing the button was also a way to make the Island findable to people who knew what they were looking for - he sure wanted Locke to believe he didn’t need to push it.

Ben had to be patient, and wait until things could be set up for them to continue….was/is Richard really a “hostile”…..? Maybe Richard was one of the first people who came to the Island and they did an aging experiment on him and maybe he was accepted by the hostiles because he ran away from Dharma. Maybe Richard was never a hostile, and his comment regarding their “true” purpose was what Dharma initially wanted….or maybe he was also stranded on the Island - maybe his parents are Adam and Eve, they died and then the hostiles raised him…..just a thought
