Is it possible that when Desmond went back in time, Locke did too, but we were not shown that….maybe he went back and kept his dad from pushing him out the window and he has regained the use of his legs because he kept the event from occurring? No one on the plane except for Rose and Walt knew he couldn’t walk. I found it very interesting that Locke plays Backgammon and chess, and Jack found white and black stones - Just wondering if there is some connection between the stones, the skeletons, the games, and Locke. The game of “go” certainly seems to parallel the themes of lost…..

The Game “GO

I was trying to figure out the stones and I decided to look up games, as there are games that are played with stones…..I found the game GO. It is played with white and black stones and it has the following basic strategic aspects:

Connection: Keeping one’s own stones connected means that fewer groups need defense. Cut: Keeping opposing stones disconnected means that the opponent needs to defend more groups. Life: This is the ability of stones to permanently avoid capture. The simplest way is for the group to surround two “eyes” (separate empty areas), so that filling one eye will not kill the group and therefore be suicidal. Death: The absence of life coupled with the inability to create it, resulting in the eventual removal of a group. Invasion: Setting up a new living position inside an area where the opponent has greater influence, as a means of balancing territory. Reduction: Placing a stone far enough into the opponent’s area of influence to reduce the amount of territory he/she will eventually get, but not so far in that it is cut off from friendly stones outside. The following comparisons were also made: Backgammon is a “man vs. fate” contest, with chance playing a strong role in determining the outcome. Chess, with rows of soldiers marching forward to capture each other, embodies the conflict of “man vs. man.” Because the handicap system tells each Go player where he/she stands relative to other players, an honestly ranked player can expect to lose about half of his/her games; therefore, Go can be seen as embodying the quest for self-improvement — “man vs. self.”

It is possible that the stones are from the game of go - a game Locke would like. Maybe he went back in time, and he is one of the skeletons….and maybe Jack thought of something with the stones that made him think of Locke…..The skeletons could be Locke and Rose??

Locke seems a lot like Desmond with his ability to “see”. The people on the plane possibly have some connection in the past that made it necessary for them to be on the Island….Maybe people like Desmond and Locke interfered with the past so much that “fate” was not going to be able to correct itself in time so people from the island manipulated them onto the island so that the those most effected by the actions of people traveling into the past could be removed, and they could “correct” things. Maybe they were all people who were supposed to be dead but who somehow survived and removing those people from the real world could serve to correct things.

You comment on Locke somehow altering his timeline.

I was struck by the comment Locke made at the end of “The Brig” that he had done just that. When Sawyer asks Locke whether it is true that his father pushed him out of a window and he was crippled, Locke replied “not anymore”. To me, this was not just Locke saying that he was not crippled anymore, but that he was saying that it was not true that his father had pushed him out of the window and made him a crippple anymore.

He probably has two kidneys again now too, for all we know.

Somehow, by removing Cooper from his life, or by erasing him from the Island, Locke has made something happen. I think we might find out what very soon…
