Obviously, the “others” had gained control of another station and was using that computer to contact the swan and whoever was manning the swan at that time contacted them back.

Hey guys, I know this really wont amount to much, but I thought it was kinda weird and I had not noticed it before…so let me know if any of you guys had noticed it and what you think.
I was recently rewatching season two and noticed something a little odd. You guys remember the episode where Eko watches the orientation video and then gives the peice of the film that he found in the arrow station to Locke, and they put it together and watch it? Well while watching it, I noticed something. Mr. Marvin Candle, the guy that speaks in all the orientation videos (who also goes by a different name in the pearl orientation video), while he is speaking in the orignal orientation video for the Swan, I noticed his hair is straight and properly combed. However, after the new peice was added, when Locke says “ok, here it comes”…..Mr. Candles hair is completely frayed and spiked a bit. Looks almost as if he is frazzled and frustrated. Which leads me to believe this splice was created after the orignal tape and was meant to be added after apparently someone used the computer to contact the outside world. Obviously, the “others” had gained control of another station and was using that computer to contact the swan and whoever was manning the swan at that time contacted them back. (much like Michaels scenario with what was supposedly Walt making contact with him) Ole Marvin found out and had to add this peice to the orientation video.
Heres the strange thing though….why was it in the arrow station? If it was meant to be added to the film, then why was it not? Why did Eko find it in the Arrow? If we assume that the others found it and took it before it made it to the Swan station….why would the others just hide it in a bible there in the Arrow? Kinda strange eh? Like I said, I know it doesnt amount to much. Just thought it was neat.

Yeah, I’ve wondered about that also. I recall seeing the spliced-in bit and thinking, “That was it? What was the point of hiding that?” I still don’t have a clue.
Right, doesnt make sense does it? Even if it were the others who found the splice….and didnt want anyone to see it so they could continue to contact the stations via computer texting….why hide it in a bible? Why not just destroy the damn thing and be done with it?
Dr. Marvin Candle is NOT the guy in both films. His twin is in the second film. In the first, one of his arms is prosthetic and in the second, both arms are real.
Lets not assume it was a twin les…remember timelines here. Perhaps he lost an arm by the time they made the other film.
I knew you’d say that. And you’re right.
i love you les, we gotta always remind each other about assuming. You got me the other day on one of my posts and I didnt even realize I was assuming…but you were right, I was.
Its tough not to assume some things becaue we’d like to be able to believe at least a smidgin of what we’re seeing. But I think that much of what appears to be a ‘given’ has to be called into question. Like Danielle being on the island for 16 years. That figure was extrapolated by Sayid who declared, at the time of receiving her transmission, “assuming the counter is correct…” he was basing his figure of 16 years on the iteration counter at the end of her loop-transmission. I don’t think she’s really been there that long. One clue to this is when Sayid meets her and tells her that her loop has been running for 16 years. Her reply is “My God, has it really been that long?” I tend to think the answer is, no.
Anyone remember that Libby found a glass eye in the arrow hatch too….
yeah les…I think my problem is too often I just take what people say on the show as truth…such as the case you speak of here with daniell….and mikhail…and other stuff. And yea I had forgotten the eye but what about it hex?
The glass eye had to belong to Mikhail, didn’t it? I’m assuming it did, I know. But, even if it did, why make a point of showing it?
Wait a minute..didnt the guy in the orientation videos refer to himself as Dr. Martin candle in one video, and Doctor something-or-other in another video? i think i need to watch those again
Yes Drea he did refer to himself as two different names. Marvin Candle and something else in the Pearl Orientation I believe.
