we keep hearing about Jacob, but have never seen him

Something is up with Ben and Locke right? That is apparent. Seems that Ben believes John has a connection with the island, which is obvious in his ability to walk. But what if there is more to it than just further understandment of the island behind Bens motives. After all, he has lived their his entire life…he should understand the freggin place better than anyone right?

Did anyone notice during “The Man from Tallahassee” that Ben was quite insistant on asking the question “Did it hurt”, and meant it in relation to not the physical pain but rather the emotional pain of it being his own father that attempted to take his life. Has anyone else also noticed that we keep hearing about Jacob, but have never seen him. Not even in the others villiage. All we see is Ben. If you believe that Ben is Jacobs son, which I do, then what if perhaps….Ben and Jacob are much like Locke and Cooper…maybe Ben asked the question to Locke because he himself can relate. Perhaps their is some friciton between Ben and Jacob or perhaps Jacob tried to kill Ben at one time but failed. I know this would not make sense in relation to Tom saying, “Shepard wasnt even on Jacobs list”, which would seem to show that Jacob is still the “boss” and Ben is just one notch under his dad. Perhaps Ben wants to take out his father to gain complete control of his “people”. Whatever the case, Ben wants to align himself very closely with John it would seem, but the real question is to what purpose? Perhaps to aid in his attempt to overthrow his father. Furthermore, Ben did not seem to concerend at all…in fact he didnt miss a beat when Locke mentioned he had killed Mikhail. Could it be because we had already seen that Mikhails loyalty seemed to belong to that of Jacob, not Ben. Could that explain why Mikhail chose to live in the Communication hatch (Flame) instead of the villiage. I do not fully understand it all but its just some thoughts. Thats all I got on this thought. Not really much to this I know.

Lostboy, I completely agree with your description of the probable relationship between Ben/Jacob. The names also point to a father/son relationship. And there is so much inter-generational murderousness in the family relationships on Lost that it would fit in perfectly. I assume Sawyer’s Dad would have killed him if he had found him hiding under the bed; Kate kills her father; Jin’s father-in-law threatens him with death; Desmond’s father-in-law seems to want to get rid of him; Charlie has that disturbing dream about his father, the butcher. I suppose one could even argue that Jack contributed to his father’s death (or at least maybe Jack feels that way). Sayid we don’t know about yet, and Hurley’s was merely abandoning—which seems like a good father/son relationship given what everyone else has gone through. It’s all very old testament in feeling to me.

This theory seems so right to me for some reason, Jacob being Ben’s father. Ben very much wants to remain “the man” and is fearful of losing his power which is why I think he is so interested in getting close with Locke since he has such an obvious connection to the island. I keep reading on other posts that Anthony Cooper may be Jacob, but I don’t necessarily agree. It’s possible, but if that’s true then why was cooper the con man he was? If he was the leader of the others, why would it be necessary for him to con women out of their money, etc ? Plus, if Anthony Cooper is Jacob, that would make Locke and Ben brothers!

I’d be surprised if Mikhail was loyal to Jacob (assuming Jacob is the boss) because the real Mikhail Bakunin was an anarchist who was very fond of the myth of Prometheus (a titan who constantly defied Zeus). i do think that Jacob is Ben’s dad and I think that it is at least possible that Cooper is Jacob. By the way, who is the “Bad Twin”? I never read the novel and I’m wondering if the characters in it are allegorical of the heirs to the Widmore fortune or if it was meant to be ficticious non-fiction within the fiction of Lost. Uh, yeah.

The bad twin was in reference to Alexander Widemore, he was the twin brother to Cliff Widmore in the novel Bad Twin. All part of the Widemore Corp

yeah Nickee….it has a little, I got to the end and kinda fell out of it because it moves kinda slow. I heard toward the end it starts to relate with the show much more but I dont really know for certain,
