Has anyone else noticed (if I am correct) there has not been one, not even one mention of a mesquito on this island.

First off these two theories do not go together. One is about mosquitoes and the other is about the monster. They do not relate, I just like ranting! Heres a thought. Has anyone else noticed (if I am correct) there has not been one, not even one mention of a mesquito on this island. Now humor me here, but arent island and jungles like breeding grounds for these blood suckers. Temperate climates and such. Kinda weird right?

Well this is even weirder….if you go to the Oceanic website and mess around with the minigame of the seat list, eventually you can click on shannon rutherford. If you click it once you get a picture of sayids id, BUT if you click it twice you get a blown up version of Rousseus map!! However the entire map is in french of course so I wrote down all the words that were discernable, and then took them to a translation website that translates words from french to english for you. Most of the words didnt really strike me as anything odd, such as wind or lagoon. But one word did strike me…it was on the map the french word Moustiques with an arrow pointing to a destination on the island. Yep, you guessed it, the word translated in english means Mosquito. Weird! Doesnt mean a thing I know, just thought it was cool. This is also cool….I did a little research on mesquitos and somehow stumbled upon japanese mythology (mesuitos in some forms of japanese mythology are referred to as incarnations of greedy and angry souls…but that doesnt have anything to do with this, just thought id throw it in there). Well after travelling around japanese mythology I came across a list of ancient japanse mythological creatures. Everyone should check this out- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akashita. Click on the image to see a larger view of the artwork. Remind us a little of anything? Plus isnt it cool that this creature is supposed to “gaurd a gateway”. I know Im not one on creating these crazy retarded theories that I know probably make the writers of the show sit back and laugh at….but man its so much fun. Out.

    Hey,

I won’t rate this one as I don’t know any mosquito that could take care of someone as tough as Mr Eko.

that said, I’m french so feel free toput me at contribution to translate anything from Rousseau.

I’ll give a look to that map though.

I’ll get back to you when I’ll be done with the map

hey malice ….no you must forgive me…im not making a connection between mosquitoes and the monster…its just when i get one theory rolling another comes around and i start ranting….these two are completely different ideas just in one thread…sorry but thanks malice

oops, I should have read this more thoroughfully.

Actually, it’s kinda interesting. That said the writers of the show made it quite clear that science should explain every mistery in the island.

I’m not sure that evil spirit can therefore be the explanation.

That said, I can’t open this oceanic site, or am I opening the wrong URL ???

    One more thing,

there are tropical islands without mosquitos or very few of them. I quite remember being left alone by the blood suckers in the Seychelles…

Because I was trying to look that up.

Yeah, it’s extremely possible that a ‘new’(geologically speaking) volcanic island might be saved from the blight of Mosquito, especially if it is remote from other land. Those little buggers might be persistent, but they are also pretty flimsy and travelling thousands of miles in hostile weather over hostile seas just isn’t there thing. That said, there is a remarkable degree of flora on the island—as well as fauna, but who knows how some of that got there—as well as human settlement, but of which may be sources of mosquitos.

Thinking about it, I’m guessing that the island they are shooting on—in Hawai, a volcanic chain—may itself be free of Mosquito. Otherwise, i’m sure given the level to which these creatures would have probably affected the cast and crew during shotting the producers/writers would have included something about them just a a throwaway. I remember Shannon wanting repellant off Sawyer for sand flies, but nothing about Mosquitos so i’ll leave the floor open for others now.

    does it really matter!?

  8. scottishchris Mar 14, 2007 3:18 p.m. Comment: 8

Well, Mr Hub, I’d say as much as any of this hypothesising ‘really matter[s]’. We’re not saving the world on here, merely throwing ideas around. If you don’t like the discussion, rate it as poor and leave

chris thanks alot man. That station guy thinks he kinda has it all figured out. But truth be told, this is all just fun ya know. Throwing stuff around to look at and what not. And I firmly believe that the only way to make any progress is to share with each other.

I did check out your web reference and will say it was interesting, ended up reading all about Japanese folklore and mythology. Your analogy to the smoke monster was interesting, and I will say I don’t know at this time if there is significance or not, but enough to it to make it stick in my mind as worth wondering about. The research was good.

thanks ozzig and station I was just joking around. Yeah the mesquitoes thing was just like awkward to me….and Im sure the smoke monster has no relation to this japanese mythology…I just thought it was kinda cool. Thanks you guys.
