attention others,
I think, please correct me if I am wrong, that Danielle tells the losties that her boat came to the island in response to a may day call. That meant that 16 years ago, the island’s com system was working, at least enough for her someone to send out a may day, to which her boat responded. I do not believe that she has ever indicated whether or not they found the source of the signal. Clearly she found the broadcasting station, b/c she changed the outgoing message from the mayday to her own message. Also, Ben obviously knows about Danielle b/c he stole her daughter, and has prevented contact between the two for 16 years. When Sayid tries to use the transponder fromt the plane, he can’t because Danielle’s signal is overiding the ability of the transponder. So my quesion is where is the transponder now, and why hasn’t it been activated. I know that Jack used Naomi’s radio/phone, but just in case you think they would have also activated the transponder. I guess I am also wondering if Ben has actually been blocking Rouseau’s signal for the entire time she has been on the planet. I think he has, why else would he allow tthe continued broadcast. He clearly had the manpower to go shut off her signal any time he wanted. Just wondering about the transponder and the signal blocking. Please comment, any ideas are appreciated.

voting without commenting is chicken $hit especially if you give a minus one to a question and an attempt to start a discussion.
Good points, lockeko, I’ve lost track of what happened to the plane’s transponder, but they shouldn’t have. It could have been valuable to them at any time.
I absolutely agree that Ben has been jamming Rousseau’s transmission all these years. Ben seems to know all that is going on on the island and will stop at nothing to protect it and the Others.
Good thoughts +1 from me!!
thanks annie, I know this is just tv, but I can’ t believe the losties wouldn’t have tried to stop the signal jamming and turn on the transponder. That is their lifelilne, regardless of who is on the dang boat. Anyway thanks for the feedback. I always enjoy your comments on my theories as well as the other theories. I seem to agree with you quite a bit of the time.
I thought that Danielle’s boat came because they heard the numbers being transmitted over and over. Not a mayday call. I think she describes that when she is talking to Hurley and she agrees that the numbers cursed her life as well.
I don’t know where the transponder is at present or why it wasn’t used. So far, we only have the story which Danielle has given about her arrival on “the island , which I doubt is the whole and truthful version. There is a lot more to her story as it pertains to Ben and Alex. I don’t think the transponder would’ve worked anyway, even with Charlie unjamming the signal from the TLG. Good question, though! +1
My understanding was that John destroyed the transponder when he knocked Sayid out.
The one interesting piece of equipment still unaccounted for is the radio that Paulo brought back from the Pearl. Last seen in Sawyer’s possession, I believe… nobody knows who has it now or if it’s being used. Likely Juliet knew it was in the camp, though.
lockeko,
According to Danielle’s story, her team picked up the transmission of the numbers on their radio; the source of the transmission led her research team to the island. The numbers were being transmitted from the radio tower. Danielle later traveled to the radio tower and changed the transmission from the “numbers” to her distress call.
Annie,
I agree; Ben’s been jamming the “distress signal” from the beginning.
Prof,
Just my guess, but I think the radio that Paulo found is still at the beach camp. But Hurley had a radio too, didn’t he? I believe this radio belogned to the “Others” that were killed at the beach? Was the radio (walkie-talkie) that Hurley was using, a different type of radio than the radio Paulo found in the Pearl?
Yes Alice has it right the numbers were being broadcast when Danielle’s team found the island. This is the same broadcast that Leonard and his partner heard that caused him to eventually go insane by thinking that the numbers had cursed him. The question then becomes the timing between the two events. Going from memory it seems that when Hurley got to Australia to find Leonard’s partner, the widow indicates that he had died recently (within the past 1-2 years). If he had been living with this sort of “curse” for 16 years I would think he would have committed suicide long before now. It almost seems as though they found the numbers more recently than 16 years ago.
The same hold true for Leonard. He seems to be completely insane but with moments of lucidity - like when Hurley tells him he played the numbers in the lottery. It seems like he hasn’t been nuts for all that long because his obsession with the numbers isn’t completely over taking him.
So the question is if Ben did in fact decide to jam Danielle’s signal at what point did he do it? It must have run for some amount of time before he jammed it otherwise Leonard couldn’t have heard it and the entire domino effect with Hurley wouldn’t have happened.
yes, so now the numbers have brought danielle to the island, then leonard heard them and went nuts, then hurley heard the numbers as well. so is it safe to say the numbers may still have a role to play in the outcome of the losties. Who was broadcasting the numbers to get Danielle to the island?
