In the scene where Ben watches his dad die in the van, there is a clear voice that speaks one word. It is not Ben (who could not speak through the mask…which is proven through the need for the Hostiles to take off their masks to speak after the DI massacre) and it is not Roger because he is hacking AS the voice speaks.
At around 38:24-35 in the episode, Ben has his mask on and Roger is going through death rattles, you hear a very clear voice say, “Live.” It kind of sounds like Ben, but not quite. I do not believe it is a production error.
I believe this is the first time we hear Jacob speak. I think this is also the first time Ben hears him. He is telling Ben to live. This maybe when Ben is chosen by Jacob as leader.
If you can, go back and review this…it is almost a little creepy!
EDIT… I found a YouTube clip of the scene. I heard it originally on ITunes, but it is here, too. Listen close at around 2:07. It sounds double backmasked.

Sweet. I found a YouTube posting of the scene. I will add it to my post above. Look for it at 2:07. It definitely sounds added on to the scene, AND it sounds like maybe it was backmasked and then backmasked again. I heard it originally on my UTunes episode, so it is not a YouTube hack.

At 2:00 in there is a similar sound, with the same tone. It just sounds like part of the coughing and hacking to me…
There is not a similar sound there. The sound I am talking about is while Roger is coughing. It clearly says “live” while at the same time you hear Roger coughing in the background.

Joe, I’m sorry, I really wanted to hear it. I heard 2 very similar sounds one at just before 2:00 and one at around 2:07, but sounded like background effects, like from a orchestra. I guess one could interpret it as live, but it sounded more like a bass or a strings section. Sorry, I think you’re hearing things. But because there is no way to know for sure, I abstain from voting.

I hear the sound that you are speaking of at 2:07 and I can see how you can hear “live”. I just don’t think that is what it is. It sounds like a similar “tone” right around 2:00. It doesn’t matter though because we will never know.
Strange!! I thought I heard live Ben. It could have been just his father gagging and attempting to say Ben or something….I really dont know. At about exactly 2:07 it sounds like it says “Live Ben”. Kind of scary, because it seems like this was not meant to be a clue of any sort (thats my opinion). It seems almost like a real life ghost or something trying to speak.
I still think it is Jacob. Ben would have died with the DI had he not encountered Richard. And at this point Jacob could now speak to him because he was killing his father (as good as dead at this point). It is the word “live” because Jacob is telling him to live.
Isn’t Ben already working with the others at that point? So why does he need Jacob telling him to live? He already has a as mask. He’s fine.
It’s right at the 2.09 mark “live”. So I can see how some may miss it because by the 2.07 mark they gave up. 2.09

I heard it but its not the same voice as Jacob. This is so bizarre - it has no context, no reference, no precedent - there’s no way to put any credibility or theory to it.
There is credibility…it is in the episode. :) However, I agree that is hard to put theory to it…I only attempted to with the Jacob theory.
ragamuffinjoe: I didn’t mean “no credibility” in that the theory is bunk or the word is not there, because I did hear it. What I meant was, there’s just nothing else in the show to support it, explain it, hint at it, reference to it, why Roger would be connected to Jacob, how Jacob can speak away from the cabin, etc , etc. There’s nothing. Zip. That’s why its so bizarre. And frustrating.

i heard something too…if you listen verrrrrry close, but it’s not 2:07 , it’s obvious on 2:08….and it’s verrrrry vague…
anyway…sure it is something!
