As Jack passes the shoe the music in the backgound is the flashback sound!!

— ragamuffinjoe

There has been a lot of buzz on here lately about the “big hint” we all missed according to the producers, and there have always been a lot of theories about the first few minutes of the show. I have been thinking a lot about some of the things pointed out and a few things I noticed myself. I rewatched the openning today, and now I want to chime in. :) I will point out a couple of things already said on here but then add a couple of new things I just noticed.

Old stuff: 1. Jack is FAR from everyone on the plane..even far from Rose, who was sitting next to him. 2. Jack is in a “bamboo cage” that this is no way he could have landed in from the sky. Go back and look at this…it could hurt your brain trying to figure out how the heck he could have landed there from the plane. 3. There is nothing on the plane around Jack—no passengers, no seats, no wreckage, no luggage, etc. 4. Jack has little damage done to him besided some cuts and bruises (counting the cut he needs stitched up). 5. He has a cut on his hand that seems to disappear later on in the episode. 6. There is a random white shoe hanging from a tree.

New stuff… Before my new observations…a note about the white shoe. In the episode when Jack see’s his father on the island (I can’t think of the episode name at the moment), Christian is wearing the suit he was buried in and white tennis shoes…just like the one randomly hanging in the woods!! i do not think this is the big hint, but worth noting! Observation 1. Rewatch the beginninng of the episode and listen when Jack runs from his “bamboo cage”. It starts as soon as you see the shoe. As Jack passes the shoe the music in the backgound is the flashback sound!! I know a lot of you on here are not found of the “been here before” theory, but this is big. I believe it is the big hint. Either Jack waking up in the bamboo was the flashback or the scenes on the beach are. Any which way you want to look at it, it is definitely the flashback sound. Observation 2. I am not sure how to work this in with everything else, but something has bothered me since the second time I saw the episode, and I confimed it today. When Jack gets to the beach, the camera starts at him and pans around. When it gets back to Jack, Jack is standing in a different spot. Watch it close. There is no way Jack is standing where he was when the pan started, the pan would not work that way. Anyway, here is my shot at the big hint. I do think at least Jack has been here before. I actually love the comparisons between Desmond waking up in season three to being VERY similar to Jack waking up in this scene. Maybe Jack has flashes like Des, and we just haven’t been told yet. Anyway, be nice. :)

Wow, Hadn’t noticed that…im starting to sway towards jack being the missing link i believed it was smokey, im still pretty unsure as some1 said that it was a bad cgi…+1

    nice observations.

For what its worth, what struck me about P1 was how all the main characters were not traumatised or “stressed” at all. It was as if the crash was “incidental” to their predicament. Our characters seemed to be more disorientated or bewildered, like they were waking up out of a foggy dream (as if they all had huge hangovers) and they were mentally trying to gather their thoughts and find out what part they were supposed to be playing. Of course this could just be the result of the actors gradually slipping into their character roles.

Wow! I think you are definitely onto something! I am wondering if Jack’s tattoo has more meaning now. “He walks among us, but is not one of us”. Perhaps that is the real snake in the mailbox! Great catch!

That’s pretty good. I’ll have to watch P1 again when I get home.

One question though. IF Jack has been there before then why is he trying to get off the island by contacting the boat (Season 3 finale)? To make the “been there” theory work wouldn’t Jack want to stay on the island?

I don’t know. But I do like you theory Ragamuffinjoe.

some good points but you lost me about midway into it.

WOAH! I am definately blown away by your noticing that the flashback music is playing when Jack is running to the beach. Of all the theories i have read on this site, (which is a lot), this is the number 1 best one of all time. I think that you might actually be right about this….and i never think anyone on this site is right…

(smart, witty, and deductive, but not necessarliy right.)

Good call on the Flashback sound. Now I have to watch the all three seasons again. +1

Great pickup. Adds fuel to the fire that Jack has been there before

Not to sound negative in anyway, I’ve just sat here and re-played that scene over and over and I’m really not getting a flashback sound.

I like this a lot +1 from me. haven’t rechecked the flashback noise but I will. I like these observations.

The sound’s not there and Jack is in the same place when the pan ended.

    Sorry Joe

    Hey Ragamuffinjoe,

I agree with you about Jack in the bamboo cage! It would be nearly impossible for him to land there without it killing him. I also noticed the pan of him and the beach shot. I agree with you there too! I thought it looked odd; like it didn’t flow right, it was like Jack had moved to a different spot. Good observation of the shoe and “flashback music”, I never noticed that….I’ll have to rewatch that. That is pretty cool.

Anyway, I definitely think you are on to something with the possibility of Jack being there before. Or maybe he has experienced the island in someway…maybe before he got on Oceanic 815, he saw the island in a flashforward (similar to how Desmond sees the future)… and the island is familiar to him. I think Jack and Desmond have an interesting connection…they met before the island and it was during important times in their lives. I mean what are the odds?…(oh yea, this is LOST, odds don’t mean anything on this show..lol)

In any case, I think there is some sort of time looping taking place..how? and why? I don’t know…but I DO think Jack plays an important role with it. Great post!! Very intriguing!
