I just rewatched the pilot and it strikes me there is a very important clue during the opening scene.
I’m pretty sure this hasn’t been mentioned in recent discussions but as Jack stands up you hear a female voice very clearly say ‘Who are you?’
I had never noticed that before and think its very odd.

…Just a suggestion, you should really check out the television release aswell because it could just be an easter egg because theres 1 of series one where jack kills his father…its a deleted scene which wasnt suposed to be on there i dont think

Screenz: It was the tv release I think. I watched it on TV Links coz I haven’t got the DVDs.
Kat: Yeah its a whisper, albeit a clearer one… I noticed it and then had to rewind and turn the volume up a smidgeon. It’s definitely there though.

Its about a minute into the episode. Jack has just woken up, Vincent comes bounding towards him, as he stands up you hear it. Its a female voice and sounds almost British to me.

In what exact moment do you hear it?
It isn’t on the DVD - did they think we don’t want to give too much away and erased if for the DVD version?
I have watched that first minute several times on my DVD player and the only thing I can hear is Jack making a few sounds like yaaaah or sounds indicating pain. Do you think it just might be possible that the tv links site may have added something to it ?
Mrs Sawyer Just watched it on TV links and I can’t hear it whats happening during that bit i.e. is it before he pulls out his not so strong drink. I hear a bird that squawks and it sounds a little like who are you but its a bird.
I can’t believe people can’t hear it. Maybe TV Links have added something but I would be surprised. Have just watched it again and it is clear as a bell to me. Its exactly 1 min 16 secs from the beginning of the TV Links version. Its definitely a whisper and not a bird calling.

I have checked and checked I cant hear anything 1.16 is when he’s stood up about to run to the beach
Can you recheck the time on it because the music in the background at 116 is quite intense but i have turned the sound up and I still cant hear it
Mate I’ve watched it over and over and thats where it is. I guess if you can’t hear it now you’re not going to be able to.
Hang on, you said in your post you hear something that sounds like a bird but also sounds like its says ‘who are you?’ That’s it. Turn it right up and listen…
Unless anyone else knows how to play this slowly? This is really frustrating. I can hear it so SO clearly.

Still don’t hear it man. I’ve played it back a hundred times and the only things I hear it’s a bird and Jack in pain “ahn, hun”. No female voice and no cristal clear “Who are you?” at 1:16.

Freak, its there, its just as Jack stands but before he’s fully upright. First Jack grunts, then you hear the Hurley Bird, and then the voice. Its a high-ish voice which makes me think its female and its spoken in sort of a rush like the words blend in together.
Its got a strange quality to it as though it has been recorded backwards or had a couple of frames taken from the sound. It definitely sounds similar to the other whispers, like when Shannon dies.
