Point is, Black and White, they’re a big part of Lost.

Consider:
The Adam and Eve skeletons had a Black stone and a White stone.
In Claire’s dream Locke was presented with one Black eye and one White eye.
When Locke is playing backgammon with Walt he pointedly remarks that the pieces comprise two sides. “One is dark. One is light.” (See also: chess.)
The Dharma Symbols are depicted in Black and White colour schemes.
Even the Lost title logo is presented in Black and White.
Point is, Black and White, they’re a big part of Lost.
And, we’ve seen a Black Smoke in the jungle.
And, “One is dark. One is light.”
And, this makes me wonder about Black and White oppositions.
And, well, anyone want to lay bets on their being a White Smoke on the Island somewhere. . .?
Just a thought.
I’m making this my last post of the year. White smoke, White Xmas, etc. Seemed kind of nice. I’ll probably crop up in some of your post’s comments but I’ll say it here anyway: Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours.
February ‘08 is getting closer. . .
I think so…Locke says to Ecko that he saw a bright light (white?) so I think there might be two smokies and Locke saw the white one. Also, +1 for surprise buttsecks.
Yeah that makes sense Locke said he saw a white light and it didnt kill him. eko sees the black smoke and it kills him
Angelo, absolutely on target! I’m sure we’ll learn more about white smokey in the new year. So this will be my last +1 of 2007 to you.
Just one correction, you only have to wait until January 31st, that’s the official premiere date. There will be an airing of Season 3 the night before and ABC claims to making a recap also.
So Merry Christmas to you and yours and I look forward with great anticipation to your new theories in 2008!
how about a white rock as well while were at it :) +1
sorry to throw the spanner into the works here but, Locke never said he saw white smoke, he said he looked into the heart of the island and what he saw was beautiful, he said he saw a white light, but not white smoke, what we have seen is black smoke with a white flash,
have a merry xmas
I love the idea AC, I really do, that a White Smoke, which we all though was black, presumed was black.
The way I see it there are three options here.
1) There are two Smokies, one white, one black
2) There is one smokie and it can change colours depending on the relevant target or purpose.
3) There is one Smokie, and it is black, and the difference between what Locke and Eko say they saw is simply down to personal perception and what they both took from their experience with the monster.
i think im missing something here, at what point was it confirmed or even aluded to that there was a white smoke monster, apart from locke saying he saw a white light!
stayputt, i think option 3 is the answer, i cant see there being two monsters
ACE - I never suggested there had been any confirmation or outright hint towards there being a white smoke. I drew attention to the idea of the prevalent black and white motif in Lost, and thus suggested that a black smoke may have a white smoke that exists in parallel, as in keeping with his black and white motif.
There’s no evidence for a white smoke thus far - but if one were to turn up it would balance and fit perfectly.
ACE - What AC said. Its pure speculation, but one that I really like the idea of for some reason.
I’m pretty sure people would have condemned the whole “the others have an actual functioning village” as an out-there theory before Series 3, so you never know.
And anyway, the Smoke was referred to be Rousseau as a “security system”, and surely a system by definition has to be made up of more than one part?
Just a thought.
“Point is, Black and White, they’re a big part of Lost”
The pearly found by Adam and Eve being black and white BY definition make black and white a big part of Lost. Other than that, I really don’t see much in the way of suggesting that Black and white are very significant.
the Backgammon example doesn’t really do it for me, either.
White smoke? could be. could be not.
+1 for the discussion. Not sure i think there will be a white smoke but you never know.
Happy Christmas AC see ya on the 28th
